Which video player does /g/ use or recomend?
I currently use this thing, but I might change it due to lag with 1080p videos, not sure if resources or software issue with that tho

SMPlayer or MPC-Qt
DA CONE M8
MPC-hc NIGHTLY, mpv or one of mpv's GUIs.
VLC is also okay if you want things to be really easy.

Can VLC play .mkv as well?
>>55428665
Yeah.
It might not be work very well for anime (anime tends to use newer and sometimes experimental codecs), but it's a decent player for movies and TV shows.
Give it a try, it's open source.

If it doesn't play anime nicely, follow this guide to set up MPC-hc (but don't get MadVR). It should work pretty nicely.

Just download Potplayer from Daum. Its the best VLC alternative on windows. On linux, just use mpv.
>>55428170
I just use MPV. It works well for me on OS X, Linux, and W10. Although W10 updates fuck up my PATH, and reset my settings for default player.
But if I have something very awkward, or broken I use VLC
