What to do when Microsoft stops windows 7 support in 2020?

I really dislike Apple but they seem to be the runner up in available software.

Pic very fucking related.

I tried software to stop the communication but it's not possible to block 100%, and keeping it blocked after the unwanted updates.

If you have patience you can do a Hackintosh. Well worth the learning curve if you want to know how osx works and are willing to learn.

Disregarded. I don't accept the 'OS as a service' model with the the large amount of useless communication.
They are trying to copy google but instead of google they don't offer more functionality with the privacy compromise.

I've used Linux, but not all software that I use is available there.

It does. But the data exchange between win7 and microsoft is blockable, unlike win10.

Yeah, well, for now ther's noreason to move from 7. Not even in 2020. Only when software no longer gets created for it.

Software development is already slowing down for win7, for example I tried to install remote play for playstation but it only supports 8.1, 10 and MAC.

I think I might have to buy some used mac(book) or figure out how to do hackintosh.
>>
>>55424753
It only supports winxp for those who pay. The dutch government for example pays shitloads for continuous support.
>>
>>55424755
That would be quite a list. But if you are aiming at the fact that linux has proper alternatives for everything I wouldn't agree 100% on that.

I also would like to be able to use new software, and also don't have to worry about future support or updates.

I hope at 2020 we will get working vGPU out of the box even on low end machines. Extra ram is already dirt cheap. So just run osx/linux as main os, wangblows for steam and another isolated windows vm for work if needed.

A lot of work must have gone into your use of words, very creative.

You can block the spying shit in win7, but win10 has a lot more and can undo your blocking work with updates that you also can't block or choose.

Of course its not possible to block all connections, unless you run it in VM or something. "Telemetry component" will always be present, even on Enterprise devices, however, it is perfectly possible to limit packages content to as little as machine/OS ID and device class. With online searching components disabled, it will still periodicaly call home, to check if its up to date (MS suggest to block this by firewall).

By properly setting up your settings/policies, you can minimize connections to the point, when it doesnt basically contain any real info. On Enterprise, officially, thats it. MS have instructions on their TechNet sit.

Do you need more?

Turn my old rig into an airgapped Windows 7 machine for old vidya.

Virtualize Windows 10 on Linux if I haven't quit vidya completely by then. I know it's already possible to do KVM passthrough or whatever but virtualization will probably be even better by 2020, so I'm not too concerned.

had that mindset, at some point something fucked up, dir was noodles anyway, decided to format n go W10.

after a week of gutting out all the retarded shit out of W10 and writing a literal saga in hosts file, dare I say it moves around a lot better than W7/W8

(literally everything windows related to web/telemetry/phone home has been killed along with google ads, fb shit, skype shit, adobe, autodesk, etc)

feels nice, moves smooth.

gather your info, find a long ass walkthrough on what to kill (there's usually a
reddit
thread dedicated to this) and take the plunge. (you have one month time to restore the old W7/W8 setup if you don't like W10).

personally I have grown to like it

It's proprietary software. You can only remove as much as you're aware of, meaning there's always the possibility of back doors. You could find and remove a hundred problems, and for all you know there's thousands more.

You're a complete idiot if you think you aren't being spied on just because you followed some online tutorials. You have the illusion of freedom, and the only real freedom is running 100% free software.

>>
>>55428153
If you believe that "MS doesn't care" then why do you bother attempting to remove spyware at all? Why not just give as much of your data and info to them as possible?

It sounds like you don't understand the fundamental differences between free software and non-free (typically proprietary) software. See https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/proprietary.en.html

Google makes most of their money on ad revenue
Google makes a Web browser with a built in api that they made
Google allows ad blocking programs, that make money from companies that pay the ad blockers to white list them, to work in their browser

Thus, Google doesn't care.

Just like how ms allows all these programs to run and Block all their spying. So they don't care.

Its not like they dont care, it is more like how small percent of users actually block all of this.

Hell, MS provide instructions for companies, how to cut down connections to their servers. More than 3/4 of Win10 users dont even change default settings, so this dont affect them that much.

It can. Yet, you act like if ALL devs use this for their own gains, always at the cost of those poor users.

You think you control the open source software? Did you really checked every single line of code? Dont you just run what other prepared before, with the only difference being that one dev want to earn money for living and refuse to share the fruits of their own work, while others are okay with this and give it to everyone?

Yeah, I could say the same about you.

The more I deal with open source supporters, the more fanatics I meet, maybe not biggest part of whole (I truly hope so) but most vocal. Everything "countered" with their own, almost religious, dogma about evil of closed source and glory of open one. I way too often run into logical fallacy like "if they can do something evil, they definietly WILL because they CAN". When I cite MS own articles, I hear "lol believing MS" - which is retarded in own way, since their OS line is closed code and thus the very authors of it are the most certain source, something that cannot be said about multiple "tests" that are cited as proofs, where authors rarely even provided details about what options they use (except from laconic "Enterprise with all anti-telemetry stepps taken" - only to later scream over mutliple calls, because they forgot about telling Cortana to fuck off and dont use web searches in start menu or by disabling one of components without disabling the related services, causing their OS to maniacally repeat calls). Like talking with Jehovah's Witnesses.
>>
>>55428576
Actually I didn't choose my government because I was born into it. Also this is irrelevant because governments are completely different from software, you fucking idiot.

>>55428617
>you act like if ALL devs use this for their own gains, always at the cost of those poor users.
Look, the point I'm trying to make (which you can't deny) is that proprietary software restricts freedoms. You aren't fully aware of what it's doing and you can't change what it's doing. If you're the same moron who uses "Spybot Anti Beacon" and shit, then you're wasting your time because you have no idea what other shit MS has hidden from you.

>>55428679
I'm not "shilling" anything, I'm supporting something that I care about by spreading information and having a discussion.

>>
>>55428807

And my point was that you might not be aware about everything in open source software, unless you actually checked all the code yourself. And that while you assume that they MUST be hiding something, I assume that they dont do more than what is described in official documentation, especially since analisis so far dont show anything more in net traffic, that was is already described.

Yeah, that's why free software is good. Thanks for agreeing.

>while you assume that they MUST be hiding something, I assume that they dont do more than what is described in official documentation, especially since analisis so far dont show anything more in net traffic, that was is already described.
I don't "assume that they must be hiding something," I know that they are because they have a history and things are revealed all the time.

The reason I endorse free software and reject proprietary isn't because I think all proprietary developers are inherently evil, or that all their software is inherently spying on me. I reject proprietary software because (as I already said) it restricts freedoms and it gives certain people power over users of their software. I don't want power held over me (or others) in that way.
