Guys,

I saw the light of freedom and liberty today. No more botnet for me. I'm running my phone without Google apps. I hope you do the same and may God bless you my fellow believers.
>>
How, which rom?
>>
To sum it up:

Play Store works
Maps work but complain about Google play services being too old. Just ignore it.
Music works
Hangouts doesn't work
Voice works
Photos works but I can't automatically back up my photos. Which is OK.
Gmail works
Contact sync doesn't work
Calendar sync works
YouTube works

Pretty good batterry life.
>>
>>55420636
I didn't know this was a thing, damn
>>
>>55420648
Microg.org
It's chroma ROM but I believe it will work the same if you have CM.
>>
>>55420636
Can it be done on a stock (4.2) ROM? I don't want to update to the buggy as hell CM..
>>
>>55420672
I'd imagine you can as long as you have custom recovery and root and xposed. You will need to remove all the proprietary apps creeping in /system/ and then put the replacements. I don't see how it's not possible however the reality might be hairier than that.
>>
>>55420665
Holy shit you stupid nigger.
>>
>>55420665
Wow, you sure escaped the botnet!
>>
>>55420691
I will slowly withdraw from actual apps gradually. Most useful thing is that the phone no longer ping it's mothership anymore. This is a long battle friendo.
>>
>>55420722
How are notifications handled if there is no mothership?
>>
>>55420665
What version of Android are you using
I'm using an LG G5, and now I have an excellent excuse to install CM
>>
>>55420707
I'd say not having my location logged every minute is a step in the right direction. Of course the withdrawal symptoms can be bad.
>>
If I want to install this, I should install bare CM with no gApps, and then get F-droid so I can keep all of the modules up to date, right?

>>55420691
Not that guy, but now he doesn't have a proprietary gmscore (that does who know what) with essentially system-wide access.

He still gets to use the beneficial google apps, but with slightly more privacy, and improved battery life.

Anyway, can you check if the various chat apps (Viber, WhatsApp and so on) work? That's really the only thing stopping me from trying; I want to receive messages properly, without big delays.
>>
>>55420722
>the phone no longer ping it's mothership anymore
How do you know? Did you install a new baseband OS? And make your own hardware from scratch? Because if not, you're still botnetted
>>
>>55420733
Oh sorry I was technically wrong. It pings the mother ship, but it doesn't ping with everything it has, like location and identifiable device ID and such. Technically the mothership can still trace its IP and such but the damage is probably less than having the mothership code running on the phone itself.
>>
>>55420757
who knows what*

a big delay*
>>
>>55420636
>falling for the meme
>>
>>55420757
I have only signal that relies on the mothership GCM services. It works so I don't see how whatapps and Viber and such wouldn't. I have Jewbook lite installed and notifications are fine too. Everything that needs GCM works in my case.
>>
>>55420777
How does it improve battery life? Does it ping less frequently or what?
>>
>>55420759
Technically no but then it's probably less invasive than mothership code on my phone that sends shit back literally every minute.
>>
>>55420777
Oh, that's a relief. I'll give it a try, then.

How do you log into the play store if you're using microG?

You can set the ping interval. Initial impression of the battery related. Nexus 5x btw
>>
>Say "Ok Google"
>3 devices beep at me.
XD
>>
>>55420790
Microg allows you to log on to Google services

You will need to put Phoneskynet.apk into /system/priv-apps and such for it to work but it allowed me to log on fine with the stock skynet.apk.
>>
>>55420821
Sorry for asking too much question, but what is the FakeStore thing?
>>
>>55420636
so you became autistic tinfoil
what an improvement!

Yeah it feels bad having to have Jewbook and Google but I'm still somewhat a normie so I try to do it with minimal damage.

Pic related it's Jewbook lite eating my battery. Although a girl fondled with my phone earlier to get on it so I won't blame on it 100%.
>>
>>55420874
>using the word "normie"

Jesus Christ fuck off.
>>
>>55420859
Fake store is the decoy one just in case an app freaks out when it doesn't see skynet.apk for some reason.
Blackstone is another step up from it, it is primitive skynet.apk that barely works but is not actively maintained anymore.
You could put skynet.apk back, and hope it doesn't invade your whole set up by a lot.
>>
>>55420870
t. Google
>>
>>55420887
It explains the concept very well. You understand what it means and what you think is exactly what I meant which is a good thing isn't it.
>>
>>55420870
I find it hard to be browsing /g/ for 3 years and not becoming autistic tinfoil.
>>
>>55420957
Tinfoil would be installing Replicant and not ever connecting to the internet.

MicroG is in no way tinfoil. It's just a safer alternative for the end user.
>>
>>55420977
I didn't realize Google was kicking in doors and killing people in cold blood. At least you can protect your family from that vicious information gathering, afterall, if you can't watch child porn in your family room is this even America anymore?
>>
>>55420977
I understand that... however the fact that my phone connects to cell towers and cell towers could triangulate my locations regardless of me connecting to the Internet or not, more or less nullifies the point of not connecting to the net. Once I have a mobile phone it is a matter of how much shit do I leak.

In this case my tolerance threshold is still quite high for that. Replicant alone would be too much of a setback for me. Probably a later day when I have more time.
>>
>>55421000
Not him, but I've done it strictly because of the battery savings on my somewhat old phone. I don't really give a fuck about privacy.
>>
>>55421037
>battery life
This is literally the single acceptable response. You can't live "off grid" while still connected to the Internet. Doesn't work that way, the information you stream is and always will be uploaded back to the source, in this case an ISP. What they do with that raw information is a different story, but expecting to outwit generations of information gathering and personal security suppression through disconnecting yourself from "google services" is certifiably retarded.
The services are icky, and full of corporate shill capitalist greed, but that's the name of the game when you allow ricuckulous laws like the patriot act to come into effect without fighting them bc "oh no da mooslims gonna fly da plane into my eyes!", without understanding what it actually does to personal information.

I speak for the US of course, as I'm a retarded American discouraged from traveling or learning about other cultures, bc merica is groovy, and everywhere else hates me and wants to kill me and my family.
Hats off to big brother for making sure my porn collection doesn't get invaded by allahu bombcar and his friends.
>>
>>55421000
Google could use your information to manipulate you into believing in something they want. Not saying that it is happening, but subtle interventions that you can't see are just as dangerous.
>>
>>55421095
I somewhat agree with you, except for the fact that ISPs seeing me sending information to jewgle.com doesn't necessarily mean that they know what I send.

Here, we limit what we send to jewgle instead of letting them decide.
>>
>>55420821
>phonesky

Should I just drop it in priv-app and change its' permission?

Also, is using the xposed module necessary?
>>
>going through all this just to escape the botnet

God forbid if people want to use their SMARTphones as such..

I haven't used gapps in a year. Then again I'm not running Android, but I do still run Android apps
>>

Which xposed module should I get??

FakeGapps.

So far, so good..
>>
For those who are curious on how to have an open source version of gapps (MicroG) with playstore.

1. Remove gapps on your stock rom or just flash a rom without gapps.
2. Flash xposed framework (5.0+) or just install xposed installer (4.4 and older)
3. Install fakegapps xposed module.
4. Install all MicroG apps. Except FakeStore.
5. Download Playstore apk. Rename it to vendor.apk, and push it to system/app (if no system/priv-app folder) or system/priv-app. Set the permissions to rw-r-r

t. Not OP.

Stock cyanogenmod still has some google telemetry.

>>55421638
I put phonesky in /priv-app/ instead, should I still remove the FakeStore?

Oh, and also there are weird crashes from the proxy framework app when I start the Play Store, will they go away?
>>
>>55420874
The facebook app (dunno about lite) records audio whenever it is open to collect advertising data.

Fucking colossal retards

t. CM without Gapps, only fdroid

You're still being spied on, gays.

I hear you,

but challenge you to the next level...

This is my phone.

I smashed my iphone during an acid trip, because I was so tired of being tracked and monitored.

I love the lg nv2. Its great. Whenever I get paranoid, I just pull out the battery.
>>
>>55421677
I haven't tried Fakestore. I read that it is way more buggy than Playstore. So I can't be sure if what I would say is correct. AFAIK you could just remove it using a system uninstaller app. Then push the Playstore apk in system priv/app.

Apps dependant on the Play Services have no problem running - in fact, Youtube seems to be running even snappier.

This is just a proof that it works, don't blast me for using Google Apps.

Someone made a mod of the old version of hangouts that bypasses the forced upgrade.

Text works, calls don't.

Check it out on the microg thread on XDA.

>>
Come on, this is pretty interesting stuff
>>
>>55420636
It's possible that I'm retarded, how do you get to this after installing it?
>>
>>55422774
You open the microG app in the app drawer, and then you tap on "About microG Services Core"
>>
>>55421916
Just went to the thread and dropped the talk. All package into system/priv-app... no such luck, the app launched but there is a giant spinning wheel.
>>
>>55421677
Just reinstall the framework proxy.. worked for me to resolve crashes.
>>
I was actually surprised to learn that anyone uses google apps.

>>
Fuck, somebody should add microG to the wiki apps page.
>>
>>55420636
All that work and yet you're still stuck on Android's annoying user interface. As far as privacy and all that jazz is concerned, I'd rather trust a company that sells overpriced products than a company that gives me everything for free. There's *always* a catch - Apple is expensive and limited if you insist on using your phone like a desktop computer and Google tracks your every move and uses the date for *anything* they see fit. And there's evidence (ask Julian Assange) that Google is involved with the government in ways that no tech-company has any rights to be. So there's that.
