Post recommended SSDs and masturbate your e-dick to each other's benchmarks.
>>
>>55420482
OP here. Yes I am a huge fag for using three brackets. Suck them.
>>
Cheapest 120gb ssd?
>>
>>55420558
ADATA SP550.
>>
Do SSD's improve anything other than boot times, noise and longevity?
>>
>>55420616
>Noise
A lot, no more grinding noises.
>Longetivity
As in battery or how much time it will last?
Yes for both.
>Other than boot times
Performance if you have less than 2GB RAM, basic programs will load instantly.
Will make your PC feel faster and smoother.
Harder than damage than a HDD and wont have the symptoms of a damaged HDD(Slowdowns, freezing, etc).
And so on.
>>
>>55420645
>Harder than damage
Harder to damage*
>>
>>55420645
longevity as in HDD will crash and you're fucked
>>
>>55420709
Depends on the SSD, they will last you years, what will get fucked fast on low quality ones (PNY, Kingston, etc) will be the controller and the SSD will shit the bed.

Average-Good quality SSDs (Sandisk, Samsung, Intel, ADATA, some Crucial SSDs, etc) dont have this problem.
>>
>>55420482
Samsung 850 Pro or SanDisk Extreme Pro, which should I buy?
>>
>>55420744
850 EVO, for now is one of the best SATA SSD, cant match the quality.
>>
>>55420744
I dunno about the Pro, but I have an EVO in both my desktop and my T420 and it works great.
>>
>>55420751
>cant match the quality
Sure if you like bugged firmware with async trim deleting your data and performance problems.
Samsung releases buggy as fuck shit, Sandisk and Intel don't have these problems.
>>
>>55420751

Can second this, just bought the 850 EVO 1TB and it is way smoother than my old OCZ SSDs
>>
>>55420739
>some Crucial SSDs
Specific models? I'm considering getting a MX200.
>>
>>55420744
Samsung 850 Pro. Although I'm a little hesitant since I just had to return an 850 Evo a few days ago because of a bad controller. I'm also an unpaid Crucial shill because the IT shop I used to work for lived by their quality.
>>
>>55420872
Its good, the BX200 is the one that has problems.
>>
>>55420941
Figured it was the BX series. The price alone was enough for concern.
>>
>>55420800
Have had my Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for about a year now and no problems. Literally off yourself for spreading misinformation intentionally.
>>
>>55421120
You should recognize shitposting and bait clearly anon, specially when shitposters post on /g/ everyday.
The tripcode should have been enough to notice you should ignore him.
>>
Cheapest SSD that is at least 500GB?
>>
>>55421225
Literally cheapest and reliable.
ADATA SP550.
Cheap:
Sandisk SSD Plus.
Not so cheap but worth it.
Sandisk SSD Ultra ii.

Anything else is not really cheap.
>>
I work at microcenter and yesterday someone bought a $1200 gayming pc along with 2x2TB SSDs. I've never seen someone fall for a meme so hard in my life. The SSDs were ~$600 each bringing the total cost of the laptop to $2400
>>
Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173072

Is this a good SSD?
>>
>>55421071
I'm thinking between the Crucial BX series or the Sandisk Plus series.
The Sandisk seem to be low priced as well. Should I be concerned?
>>
>>55421692
>gayming pc
>laptop
>>
>>55422306
I just bought one, I couldn't find any terrible reviews.

It's MLC, and gets good enough read/write speeds.

So um probably?
I hope?
But yeah it's cheap so a more expensive MLC will be more reliable and faster.
>>
i have 4x OCZ 120GB Trions in raid 0.

1.75GB/s, my mobo only supports M.2 x2 anyways, not x4.
>>
>>55422306

I have it. No problems. Can't remember the performance but it's not terrible and about on par with my adata sp. Just get whatever is cheapest and not shit tier. Sandisk and adata are fine.
>>
My 1 TB mushkin hasn't failed me yet and $250 for 1 TB just can't beat that price.
>>
Best 60GB mSATA SSD? There's so many on Amazon, and they're all from literally who brands.
>>
>>55422982

Got my self a Kingston HyperX Savage, the guy in the store told me that it's the fastest SSD gaming driver.
Really happy with it, win10 boots in half the time compared to my old hard driver, and games go blazing fast!
>>
Is there a convenient way to know whether whatever SSD I'm looking at online is MLC or TLC?
>>
Are cheap SSDs unreliable?
>>
>>55423461
All SSD's are unreliable.
You cant expect same level of reliability from digital flash drives (SSD) as from analog hard drives (HDD).
The average lifespan of SSD is like 5 years, slowly the digital degeneration destroys the flash cells in SSD.
>>
My OCZ trion 150 arrives tomorrow, I don't know how its going to perform but 99 dollars for 480 GB seems cheap enough

Is the Ultra II better than the SSD Plus? They're pretty much the same price in the UK.
>>
Damn I'm pissed, I got 2 240GB Samsung 840 Pro SSDs about 3 years ago and had to pay some crazy prices kek...
>>
Got an Ultra 2 960gb for $300 from an amazon sale.

>>
>>55420482
how are the Corsair FORCE LE? the 480gb is pretty cheap right now at amazon
>>
960gb sandisk ultra II for 250€. Yay or nay? Personally i've had a 480gb one as a boot drive for half a year now and no problems so far, but i'd like other opinions.

Amazon has two kinds of them:
Old version
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-240GB-2-5-Inch-SDSSDA-240G-G25-Version/dp/B00S9Q9VS4

New version
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Solid-Components-SDSSDA-240G-G26-Version/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

Is there a difference? I mean the new version costs more than $30+ more.

Lmao, do you not have a Sata 3 port?
>>
>>55420709
A HDD crash will brick the drive, a good SSD will, when it wears out, go read only.
>>
>>55426991
>a good SSD will, when it wears out, go read only

It's useless as well since you can't copy anymore and can only read.
>>
>>55420616
Yes, random read/write performance. (e.g. compare the execution time of git commands in large repositories)

Also, installing new things is significantly faster on an SSD (for obvious reasons), especially when using a package manager that forces a sync() in between each atomic step (thus negating the benefit of a large write cache)

>>55420645
I have 16GB of RAM and an SSD / was still the single biggest upgrade to my system in the past 5 years, performance-wise.
>>
>>55427081
It's useless but at least the data can be recovered, Unlike and HDD when it breaks you loose everything.

Are the Corsair FORCE LE any good?
>>
>>55427927
Define “better”.

Best for latency: pooling (e.g. btrfs in ‘single’ mode, zfs zpools or LVM vgroups)
Best for raw write throughput: RAID0. Pooling only in some circumstances
Best for raw read throughput: RAID0 or RAID1. Pooling only in some circumstances.
Best for redundancy: RAID1
Best for storage space: RAID0 or pooling

Pick your requirements.

Pay close attention if you are in the UK.

The fuck you talking about anon? I went on Currys and the pin is 4 digits. The barcode seemed right though, which is also needed to be entered (found a pic of a guy showing the barcode).
>>

I don't know why it's 5 digits (after the gift card code) just drop the last one and it will work.

the barcode literally reads to
>"BARCODE=PIN"

It even has the fucking "=" on it. Lazy fucking card issueing.

We're getting NVMe disks for our new PCs at university, but for my own machine it'll have to wait at least a few years for my next disk upgrade.
