The worst is how badly updates are broken for a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1. Windows Update checks for updates for days while using 25% of the CPU and 2GB of RAM. The standalone installer Microsoft created to fix this problem does the same thing.

The only thing that works is brute forcing it with the WSUS Offline Installer.

Debian was first and ubuntu is built off it, bonehead.

Because Oracle bought Ksplice and fucked it all up.

It still amazes me how Microsoft is handling updates.

>any memelinux
updates comes for packages and most of the time it is just diff of config files or some small .so or binary under <1MB 90% of time.

you can choose mirror with updates, so the best case is your closest university, where the connection speed is very high (also nobody uses linux, so no traffic)

most distros doesn't bother user with updates, and when you decide you want to update, it is under 10 minutes even when your distro is 3 years old and only 2 days of support left.

no restart needed unless you update kernel or kernel modules (such as graphics drivers or kvm)

you can still use the software which is currently updating on background. After you close the program and open it again, then it is the new version.

Personally I have never experienced stuff getting broken even more when in Mint you don't update updates with number 4 / 5.

>Windows OS pro 11 just works(tm)
any update is actually singed EXE blob which is never under 1MB, updates these days are sometimes over 100MB, and (this is new since 8) size of installation media like that one with 1.5 GB

very slow downloads. I don't know how MS is managing mirrors, but if you aren't in some bigger company with Win ser which servers updates, it can take VERY long time just to download. Also why the fuck is the first Wednesday in month global? Why not some clever alg to decide when to download?

updates are very aggressive since 2000, user have to be very cautious to control them and not the other way around. I once needed to catch a train and my notebook told me: pls don't turn me off, I need to finish this updates. Very funny.

Almost everything needs restart, sometimes multiple. Then some updates will fail and rollback is ridiculous. Oh and try to use software when the update is working on background. Once in updating .NET my VS told me that Integer wasn't defined.

Seriously win fan boys, you can't defend this shit part of your OS.
