I bought a nook simple touch years ago- its screen is always dark gray and the pixel density is not good. Menus are unintuitive and there are hardly any system settings worth looking at. Worst of all there are only two fonts I find readable.
That said, I've read a ton of books on the device and had a great time with it. I think any given ebook will work for you if your interest is reading books and not all the other bells and whistles it comes with
In other words, if you think you'll use it, buy it. All it does is move eink letters around.
