Are red Gaterons a good alternative to blacks if they aren't an option? I'll be mostly using them for writing/programming.

Royal Kludge RK61 is really cheap, but has kailh switches.
KBP V60 is the next best option. It has cherry switches.

Why would anyone want LED back lit boards? Just learn to touch type.
>>
>>55390686

>>
>>55389543
Linears are pretty bad for typing, get gateron blues (clicky) or cherry clears (tactile)
>>
>>55390872
>Linears are pretty bad for typing
Care to elaborate? I'm having a hard time imagining them being bad, since I've been okay with membranes/scissors all my life.

I'd get blues like I always wanted to, but I'm afraid of them being too loud in case I have to bring my keyboard with me to a quiet public place.
And I ain't building two keyboards with different switches or buying cherry switches, both of those options are out of my budget.
>>
>>55390872
Really? 'Cause I love linear for typing.
>>
>>55390935
they arent bad that guy has just fallen for the marketing scam that they are gaming switches.

i far prefer even my cherry blacks over my gateron blues

anyway get yellows if black are not an option, they are like blacks but with lower bottoming out force
>>
>>55391324
>they are like blacks but with lower bottoming out force
Oh, I for some reason thought they had higher bottom out force than blacks. I looked it up and indeed they are actually 5g lighter.
Thanks, anon, I'll definitely consider them.

It took me about three months of studying daily before I could even read easy manga and understand to the most part what's going on.

Being able to comfortably read it about half a year or so. More difficult shit after a year. It's been about two and a half years since I started now, but I mainly just watch raw anime and read manga now.

HHKB is coming along well, got a red control key to match the spacebar and lubed the stems. Maybe I'll pick up a realforce in Japan and swap the 55g domes with the 45 ones in the HHKB.
Or just use the realforce, I don't having arrow keys.

Ye.

I don't mind light switches (got 35g clears around here), but I came from cherry clears to Topre, and even though I was used to heavy switches I had no problem getting used to Topre. Quite the opposite actually, I prefer things on the lighter side now.

If you can deal with the flat key layout and height honestly there's nothing sub $100 that can compete. They're all completely outclassed. Honestly they probably are the best sub $150 keyboard as well. Just the weight of such a small stock keyboard can tell you the whole story.

different anon, but...
I can mostly touch type as long as I get my hands centered properly. So why do I like having a backlight on a keyboard? It's because it can help me find my hands on the keyboard when I sit down, and also for ambient lighting. With that being said though, I keep my ambient lighting in the family of reds, to help contrast from the blue from the monitor, and the wall color. I keep the LEDs in my peripherals and out of my PC though.

Yeah, I manage the guide over there (or used to rather, I'm still there but most of the work is done by someone else). Glad to hear that it's of use to you.

Make sure to not let yourself get slown down too much. I took a month to learn hiragana even though it could have been done within a week. Once I started pushing myself more I noticed that I could actually go far faster. Don't be afraid to push yourself. Learning a language like Japanese is lots of fun and a great experience.

I think the first thing I read was yotsubato, though I never even finished the first volume since I got bored of it quite quickly.
I then read 砂糖菓子の弾丸は撃ちぬけない and あいうら, I can very much recommend both. There's easier things for beginners (as I found out later), as those two have either a somewhat deep plot or lots of dialogues with lots of unknown words. Just make sure to start a mining deck once you start reading.

I'm leaning towards that one. Seems like you can swap Fn and Caps which was my big concern with a 60. The color schemes are nice too, both Olivette and Dolch.

i would say it's better, but that's subjective. there wouldn't be that many differences, I think.

allows you to change the functions of some keys, like swapping ctrl and caps lock

4chan thinks ducky links are spam, for whatever fucking reason, and it's impossible to "reformat" to make it work
so, just google "ducky warranty", and those are the first two things to come up

Thanks, yeah I got hiragana down in ~ a week. Could still improve my knowledge but will brush that up after I've got katakana down, hopefully should be able to do that in a week. Then it's onto anki and the vocab flash cards. Am a little nervous about the grammar though...

Grammar, or basic grammar at least, is the easier part of Japanese, if you've ever had the pleasure to learn a language such as French or German, you'll find yourself praising Japanese grammar to the heavens.

I don't know about takemitsu zamurai. Juding by google images it doesn't look terribly difficult, but if you're still just a beginner you may find it to be a bit challenging. I recommend not worrying about the difficulty of things that you want to read and to just try reading them. If you can read it, then do that. If it's too difficult, then just keep studying and find something easier until you feel confident to try reading it again.

Regular keyboards have almost no tactile feedback and can result in joint strain. With mechanical kbs you know when the actuation happens and you don't have a need to bottom out the keys.

>Regular keyboards have almost no tactile feedback and can result in joint strain
The fuck are you smoking anon.

There's nothing more ergonomic about having tactile feedback. The only benefit that mechanical keyboards offer in terms of ergonomics is the fact that it's quite easy for a single person to design and build a layout that they want (e.g. atreus or ergodox) that's more ergonomic that traditional keyboard layouts. There's nothing more ergonomic about having keyboards that are twice the height of what a membrane keyboard could be.

Learning by ear is something you can do (and that I'd highly recommend, listening practice is important) since it'll give you an idea of how to talk far more than reading will, but I would focus on text-based learning when starting out since when learning by ear most of the things will fly right over your head, since you probably won't be able to understand half the words, and hence also have no idea what the sentences you are hearing are about. Once you start watching raw stuff you notice just how important vocab is.

>>55408866
Yeah, I was thinking of cutting down the edges a bit, but it reminds me of the unique aesthetic of the apple m0110 and other keyboards/microcomputers from that time.

hey guys, quick question. I am currently using a keyboard with cherry mx blues and I really like it, but its sorta older and I wouldnt mind getting a new one if need be. My issue is that I recently moved in with another student at my uni and they have been complaining that my typing is too loud and that it bothers them. My question is whether I should get a new keyboard that is less clicky, or just get some sound dampeners for my keyboard rn. If I should get a new keyboard what type of switches feel similar to blues but arent as loud? and if you have experience with sound dampeners how effective are they at reducing noise?

Grab some o rings first, they are so cheap. If they work out, then you've saved a bunch of money. MX switches are loud. desu if o rings don't work then a different switch really won't make that much difference. This plus learning to type a little softer can't hurt.
