50. I never got into that correct finger placement junk. glad I'm not working as a code monkey or computer anything, though I imagine not everyone in a tech field has the speed of some /g/entoomen on here
>bought a mechanical keyboard with red switches
>error rate skyrockets due to sensitive keys getting brushed and pressed
God damn

I certainly find typing fast easier when I am not trying to type to something on the screen.

I feel ya, I've been touch typing since I started using computers and never had a problem with it. Had a mandatory typing class in middle school, teacher forced us to do the whole home row correct finger placement thing and it just didn't work for me. Wasn't too into relearning how to type.

yeah, good point.
Touch typing in a thinkpad T420.

OP here, also touch typing on a T420.
Around 80, want to be faster since it feels like I can. But whenever I try, I make more mistakes. Have been typing for 7 years now.
Used to type with my left hand and index+middle on my right and I could hit 110wpm.
I made myself switch to proper typing last year and my best is only 101wpm.
Best thing is I never have to look at the keyboard anymore to find any symbols. When I typed with my shitty style I always had to look down to find anything other than alphas.

this
Mine was 86 the last time I tried - a couple of months ago.

I never even had any typing classes, I just learned how to type naturally by spending a big part of my teens indoors, playing games and chatting.
