Hardware sucks right now. AMD is burning out mother boards. Nvidia 3.5 memes and planned obsolescence. Not to mention 1080gtx is like $990.00 dollars in canada...

I mean I could keep waiting for the next card but I want a new card.... Is it time to but a PS4 /g/?

Rx480 hasn't burned any boards

Yes I'm sure regular users will expect the same thing. They play witcher 3 24/7 for weeks on end afterall

What happens when the next Nvidia gameworks title comes out and Nvidia uses their dirty tactics to max out your cards and blow them on purpose?
>>
>>55386490

he took out his 2 280x he had in there and put 2 RX 480 in there. they were faulty and it burned his board. he even underclocked them.

>buy cheap motherboard
>it breaks
wow

Anyway graphics cards have been going beyond the pci-express spec for eons. I fact nvidia specializes in that. Nothing significant has happened because of it.

If going out of pci-express spec was this deadly then we would have seen thousands of dead motherboards because of it. We haven't.
>>
>>55386520
Nvidia thing is way lower.
>>

>Average draw 80
>Average draw 57

It's like putting the number 480 in your card guarantees house fires.
>>
>>55386544
The spikes are higher, almost reaching 300W. Despite the nvidia card doing this the motherboards it is run on have not died because of it.

Moral of the story: don't buy cheap motherboards.
>>
>>55386551
Look at the spikes you retard. GTX 960 is going 2X the PCI-express specification limit of 75W.

Where are all the dead mothetboards that ran a GTX 960?
>>
guys how whould a low end z170 would that be still okay?

Lads/Lasses i'm worried.

no it doesn't.

Spike doesn't cause burn out. It's mainly the sustained thermal that cause the issue. Pcie sustain isn't supposed to be more than 66w or so. Sustain on pcie is what fucks up, not momentary millisecond spikes.

undervolt, it'll be fine until the driver update.

Never buy a reference generation card unless you plan on selling it in 6 months. Or you just don't give a shit. It's like walking through a minefield, buying cards before they've worked out all the kinks. And there's always at least minor improvements to cooling, OCing etc in the second generation. 3.5 won't happen again. It was a miscommunication between their marketing and engineering departments, and it hurt their public image so much they're never going to let that happen again. Also don't buy a ps4 until they release the version with better graphics.
>>
>>55386416
1080ti when?
>>
>>55386888
They might release one in a year or two, or not at all. Not something I would wait for.
>>
>>55386568
>don't buy cheap motherboards.
or dont buy cheap card
>>
>>55386917
it will likely release with AMD's vega IF there is a 1080ti or they much just skip it for a new titan.

I can't see poliris going higher than a RX 480 because i don't think competing was the idea.

I shame because i would of loved to see duel Polaris 10 chips with some minor improvements to OC and a water block but whatever
Dreams are free I guess.

>3.5 won't happen again
Wasn't that already said with 1.5 when the 660Ti bus problems happened?
>>
PC graphics won't reach parity with the current console gen until at least 2018. By which time the new consoles will be out. Don't waste your money

>thinks people who buy cheap cards have expensive mobos
Excellent logic pajeet
>>
>>55386416

The mobo issue:
- Will be fixed on Tuesday with an update (confirmed by AMD)
- Only affects reference cards
- It happens in many Nvidia based cards such as Asus Strix 960.

RX 480 is the best card performance/price, period. Just don't buy reference, never ever.

Nice.

>RX 480 is the best card performance/price, period
You mean integrated graphics is the best for performance/price.

>>55386742
how do you know that?

>race to the bottom price/performance

many APUs from AMD beat it at price/performance.
>>
>>55388223

There wasn't a "660ti problem." The 660ti, 550 Ti and 970 were all intentionally built with RAM disproportionate to their respective memory buses. The reason is that they are all "damaged" versions of more expensive models. A 970 is a 980 that had a small defect during manufacturing. Rather than tossing out a $500 piece of equipment, they disable just that part of the card and sell it for $300. This is a common manufacturing technique for tech companies. So the disabled card ends up with the same amount of memory but the last half gig is slower because some of the L2 cache and ROPs have to be disabled. It's still a good deal for both the card company and the user, it's just something that is made known when releasing tech specs and kept in mind by the sites that review cards. That was the problem with the 970. They messed up the stats they released, indicating that the 970 had the same L2 cache and number of ROPs as the 980, so people didn't KNOW the 970 was going to be a partially disabled card. It was still a good deal, and the card did TECHNICALLY have 4gb running on a 256 bit bus, but they still fucked up pretty bad with their info.

This is actually true of CPUs as well. an i5 6400 is basically an i5 6500 with a few flaws in manufacturing (generally part of the cache is unusable).

there are no APUs that beat it at price/performance. Cheapest APU is the A6-6300 with an 8370D at $34.99. It can only manage 590 in 3DMark, whereas even the worst-performing RX 480 (one bottlenecked by an A8-5600K) will hit 6604.

Literally over 10x the performance for less than 10x the price.
