Most companies still require Java, so a lot of applications is still in this glorious language.

Maybe for consumers. A lot of enterprise software runs on java and propably will for a long time.

Corps are starting to look elsewhere tho. EE development has been effectively halted for a good while now as they work on the cloud stuff.
I'm just glad that Java 6 and 7 are no longer publicly supported and most everyone uses 8. Even better, they're going to remove plugin support from 9.
