Then you surely paid far too much for those, because they're all sold at the lowest price on CNS, and even then it's a rip off. They're the shittiest straps you can find.

Get yourself something decent from GasGasBones or Timefactors.

The GA-100 is fine. It's not a luxury watch, it's not fancy in any way, but it's tough and reliable. The only recurrent failure I've encountered was the watch resetting for no apparent reason but it's been fixed by Casio since then. As long as you get the waterproofing checked every time you change the battery, you should be fine.

unless you're talking about a slim watch without a seconds hand or something it's fine

most of what people consider dressy were everyday watches back in the day
>>
>>55373883
Everyone says that, but I really never saw any proof of that. I mean obviously it's dogshit, but still, this part seems to be a myth, the company itself claims the movement is assembled in the US, with Swiss parts. It implicitly admits the other parts are made in China, along with every non-movement parts.
>>
>>55374045
Because back in the day, people dressed far better on average than anyone today. Still, they didn't quite have the variety of models we have today.
>>
>>55374058
Yeah it actually happened. The company put out a statement about how much it was "hurting American jobs"
Basically most is made in China, some movement parts are swiss and they employ a few people to put the half chinese movement into the all chinese case and slap on a strap (probably chinese)

I see Omega sprinkles the occasional "Professional" on their watches, including one of these moon watches.

What is the difference? Getting paid to go to the moon or not?

>>
>>55378535
My watchmaker got a whole bunch of these from a guy who bought store returns wholesale. I can only assume his client was looking to fix a few and resell them.

The original return rate was incredibly high, with a good 15% just plain not working out of the box, and they are incredibly fragile and break even trying to do mundane shit like changing a battery. Crystals shatter easily. These are ones to avoid, the quality is just not there even if the price is.

>>55378011
This is what I try to explain to my coworkers who don't understand why you might get a Seiko. "But if you get Swiss it will increase in value". No, just look at all the great deals you can get on used Speedies. Good if you have buyers' remorse and your wife has left you and you need to pay alimony, good if you are the one buying the lightly used watch off the poor sucker, not good if you're trying to get a return on your investment.

Very few watches increase in value. Rolexes, if kept in reasonably good shape, may retain all or significantly all of their original value, unless your dial goes tropical, in which case it becomes very sought-after. Maybe the same goes for a Calatrava. Otherwise, I don't think so, Tims.

Could I perhaps interest you in a Bulova Accutron II, ref. 96B212?

>262 KHz quartz movement is insanely accurate, keeps time within 10 seconds per year
>Smooth sweep seconds hand to show off the high-grade movement, not complete lack of seconds hand to hide the low-grade movement
>Excellent finishing and build quality
>Hideous blue strap is at least better quality than what you get with Skagen and can easily be replaced
>Costs about as much as a Skagen

Only downside is it burns through batteries like no tomorrow. You're lucky if the battery will last 2 years, but it's all worth it.
>>

Fuck any, and I mean ANY wrist watch that does not have date AND DAY on it. I mean, really... Is it so hard to put on a watch? Especially 5k+ USD ones.

Never ever would I spend a dime on one that is day handicapped. Fuck that!
>>

>>
>>55379211
its actually another complication.. do you know about watches? depending on the movement adding a day and date is adding whole other part to the movt. It can get very very expensive especially if youre already maxing out the dimensions due to other qualities you may have.. cough cough panerai..

whats the VPH?
Whats the power reserve?
Auto or mech?

once you start worrying about these other things getting a day and date into the mechanism starts to become a fat bitch. Maybe not on a miyota or my seiko 7s26 but than again these have +-20 sec a day, barely a 20 hr power reserve etc.. when we talk about panerrai or rolex that dont have a date they have 3-4+ day power reserves, +-5 second accuracy etc etc.. these qualities come because of the parts they use and space used.. for example panerai achieves a 6 day power reserve by having 3 barrels.. so yea its a $6000+ watch without a day date but it lasts 6 days without a wind... its a trade.. but you get the idea.. its just another complication that makes things more difficult.

/wt/, serious question here. I already own two mechanical watches. The first is an old, battered Seiko SKX007 which stopped working a year ago, right around when I discovered /wt/. I got a 6R15 swap done by the people at Artifice Horoworks and I was very pleased with the outcome. Shortly after that I decided I needed a "nice" Swiss watch and while on vacation in Germany I bought a Mido Commander II chronometer. At the time I was thrilled with it, but I have been getting buyer's remorse after learning of Mido's position within the general fuckery of Swatch group, and learning that the beat rate is a lower 21,600 bph and not the more desirable, smoother 28,800. It is also a little bigger and sportier than I would have liked. I honestly find myself wearing the Seiko more.

So my question is, is it worth selling the Mido and getting a Rolex? I have the opportunity to buy a lightly used (the guy claims it was only worn about a dozen times) 2015 39mm Oyster Perpetual with the blue dial and green accents. I've heard that I'll take a hit on the Mido, but how bad of a hit can I expect? And should I even be bothering with expensive watches at all?
>>
>>55379296
Actually, it's rather easy to implement in the design phase. It's not like you're adding it after the fact. Especially since it's inly a few pieces more. You did not manage to change my mind. I still fart in the general direction of any watch without day/date. However expensive it may be.

Hey don't talk shit about the Miyota 8200. It can be regulated within about 2-6 seconds per day (whether it stays there is another matter) and runs for a good 40 hours.

Can't defend the 7S26 to the same degree because the fuckers are impossible to regulate properly.

that desirable 28,800 puts the pallets through hell.. even chipping them which is why omega had to slow some of their watches down.... soooo the decision to go down to a 21600 bph is not all that bad.. your watch will last far longer.. if you dont like the watch than yea sell it. i would take a look before buying used.. i wouldnt recomend getting used bc god knows what that guy did to it.. carfax bro carfax theyre important.
>>
>>55379618
lol

no its not easy to implement in the design phase.. you have to reconstruct almost the entire movt... again ill use panerai as an example..

If they decided to take a barrel out to add in a day date complication youd have to add in the day wheel, the date wheel, the gear couple from the column wheel to the day and date wheel not to mention if they went perpetual than theyd have to add in a whole other gear couple.

I dont think you realize how intricate all of this is.

Different anon chiming in.

I've had three 7S series movements and they all ran at least 38 to 40 hours, a 4R36 that does 42 hours, an 8 year old 8203 i had did 36 hours and 3133 that does a whopping 49 hours if i don't touch the chronograph.

So go figure, ive had shitty old Soviet Raketas that barely did 20 hours but never on a new watch.
>>
>>55380406
i had a miyota.. it wouldnt even runn past about 16 hrs thats after 48 hrs wearing it strate... i traded is for a seiko skx009 with a 7s26 which has the same reserve as the miyota... guess what? same thing wont run past 20 hrs after wearing if for 48 hrs strate.

the manual says 40 hrs.. but they dont run that long.. they dont i promise they dont. i have had them both. and this can be corroborated on countless watch forums regarding these movments.. some ppls wont even run past 12 hrs...
>>
>>55380436
okay fukk it.
They run 40 hrs.. for the sake of ending this bc im done.. however that still doesnt change my initial argument. these movements arent as complex as say panerais or rolex.. so regardlesss 40 hrs is still trash compared to panerais 90 or rolexs 70+.. soo all can fuck off.
>>
>>55379701

Well, at least they *admitted* it was Chinese.

China is going from mere copies to more original work, ref. Xiaomi. So it is probably a question of time before some Chinese enter the lucrative watch market with something a bit inventive.

Most watch faces I see are just meh and more of what I have already seen. There is way too little new thinking other than gaudy colours on existing designs.

>I mean ANY wrist watch that does not have date AND DAY on it. I mean, really... Is it so hard to put on a watch?
Agreed.

I want a watch that does more than look cool. I use it for work. I need day and date. In my line of work we prefer to use ISO date so it would have been nice to have that. And I would like to have a week number too.

OK so it requires a few more parts. OK. This would distinguish this watch from the thousands of other boring watches of limited utility. Stopwatch is useless to me. I see many watches have this and I am curious how often people actually use this function. It may look cool. I just want utility.

Same with GMT hand. Kinda amusing. No real utility for me. And again I wonder how many have an use for this. No rhetoric, I am genuinely interested.

Jomashop is huge. Even when you look at various grey market dealers, many are just jomashop still. You can read about that online.

As far as I understand it lots of people buy from Jomashop, and they do sell genuine watches. But I've heard iffy things about their customer service. For instance if you buy a model that's new but has since scratches or something with it you might be stuck.

But I haven't used them myself. Dyodd And search the reviews online.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Old post, I know, but there is nithing at all wrong with 28800 movements. If Omega's palletts were chipping then it is due solely to their own retardation. Plenty of 28800 movements, like the ETA 2824, Seiko 0703, Citizen Leopard Super Beats, Valjoux 7750, pretty much any modern Rolex and of course the Seiko 52 caliber all last forever. Even some 36000 movements like the Seiko 5740C are very, very reliable.
