OP my ISP actually cuts off your service till you call and acknowledge it. Just tell them you don't know who did that and your wifi is public so it wasn't anyone in your household that did it. Look up laws about this for protection if your ISP has something like a 3 strike policy where they shut off services.
Also, porn is actually one of the biggest things that get more cease and desist letters. They also like to extort people as well trying to shame you so you don't wanna appear in court. I could download movies all day and see no email or need to call my ISP to get internet services back up but as soon as I decided I wanted an American porno I get cut off next day.

With regards to copyright shit, just tell them it wasn't you, maybe someone used your Wi-Fi without permission. If they don't buy it, switch ISPs until they forget about you.
With regards to real crimes, let me give you a little bit of advice: shut up. Giving a quick confession will not get them to go easy on you. There's a reason it's called a plea bargain -- the state has to earn the confession first.
Also, never be afraid to take people to court. People will use scare tactics because they really, REALLY don't want to go to court.
