When will eGPUs become more common? Will USB type-C basically make it mainstream?
I want to keep a good business-class notebook but when I bring it home, I'd like to hook it up to an eGPU for rendering jobs.
At this point it's just the razer core for a hefty price tag. You can have a DIY option with mini-pcie, but I'd say in the next year or so we will see more eGPUs.
And it's not just USB type-C that will make it mainstream, it's technically Thunderbolt 3 (though it is also USB C)

This. It will be at least a year before it becomes more mainstream. Once USB C and Thunderbolt 3 are ubiquitous, we'll see more eGPUs.

Business class is just a meme, retard. Just get a blade and cover the top with a skin or something.
Been using alienware egpu for a year now. Inb4 alienware and gayman laptop. Same bandwidth as TB3 egpus and was often on sale for less than $150. But its a proprietary connector, big cable that is only 4.5 ft long, and not plug and play.

Usb 3.1 doesn't have the type of connection for a GPU, thunderbolt does

holy fucking shit.
SO FUCKING CRINGE.
I rather die than be caught using an external gpu.

Go back to watching Filthy Frank my man, 4chan is for people over 18 only.

You can just build a complete ITX setup for cheaper than one of those overpriced GPU enclosures. Even better, you can just rent a GPU server off AWS.
This is something I'm really interested in.
Do you need an expresscard slot if you don't have thunderbolt/usb-c?
Do they sell usb-c to mini pci-e?
What's the OP pic using?

Except razor blade has literally nothing in common with business class laptops.
