So I fucking hated Windows 8 and after trying it on a friends computer when it was released. I heard windows 10 is better but it just looks like the same shit.
Is it actually decent now or should I just stick with Windows 7?
Upgrade to windows 10, fiddle around with it, try skinning it to 7 with classic shell. Use built in downgrade option to restore windows 7 exactly the way it was within 30 days. Have permanent, keyless entitlement to Win10 in case you ever need DX12 or something. No more worries about 1 year free upgrade ending. Bam

Sure it is. In just under a month from today, windows 10 will be $119. Mind you plenty of people are happy about this, because microsoft has pledged to make the update notifications finally shut up, but if there's any chance you will want or need 10 in the future, it's worth upgrading for a few minutes now and then reverting back to claim the permaliscense

You just go ahead with the upgrade that microsoft has been prompting you to do. If that doesn't work for you, you can download the Windows 10 media creation tool-

and use it to download a windows 10 installation disk. The new "digital entitlement" license is made automatically, and if you ever install windows 10 on that computer in the future, microsoft's servers with recognize your PC automatically and activate it for you, no key required.
To double check your win 10 is activated, click Start, select Settings>Update & Security > Activation. Make sure it says “Windows 10 on this device is activated with a digital entitlement"
Then to go back to windows 7 or 8, go to the Recovery tab and click “Get started” button under “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1.”

The same way they always have, really. When a computer is set up by the manufacturer or you activate a copy of windows you purchased, microsoft records the number of the motherboard and your hardware configuration in their servers, and that becomes part of your license. If you changed out your motherboard that would deactivate windows regardless of whether you had a key, and you'd have to call microsoft and get them to fix it. The actual key is mostly incidental and microsoft has been phasing it out since windows 8, as that whole system is too easy to crack.

I imaged my drive and installed Windows 10 to test drive it for a week.
Verdict?
Honestly it's not the worst thing in the world but there are just too many annoying little things, probably going back to 7 tomorrow.
For example, in Windows 7 you the into the unified search "uac" and hit enter it brings up the uac settings right there. Windows 10? Nope, fuck you you get an empty screen on our fucking useless settings app. It's been 4 days and I'm sick of fighting my OS, 7 Just fucking works.
