>Updated to Win10 day one
>heard about automatic updates on windows 10 with no way to stop it
>went into services and disabled Windows Update
Well, as far as I can tell, I haven't had any updates since then, but should I reenable it /g/? Is it worth all the updates?
>>55349299
No.
why the fuck would you disable updates?
do you want to get hacked?
sometimes I think people here don't know how technology works
>>55349504
Its ok I'll use Common Sense 2016 and I wont get infected
>>55349551
You can't be this stupid...
>>55349504
Pretty much >>55349551
A combination of avast, avoiding porn and russian sites is all i do, with no issues so far
>>55349481
Too late
>>55349588
>Avast
If you want a free AV, just install Kaspersky and use a trial resetter, avast is literally shit
People actually don't use FireWall and AntiVirus software? Then you come to a fucked up and depraved place like 4chan that's full of fucking viruses and stuff?
You guys are madmen. My ZoneAlarm goes off about once every 15 minutes when I post here.
>>55349616
lol why does it go off? what is the "threat" that it's reporting?
>>55349616
I use AV, just not windows defender
>>55349629
worms, spiders, and trojans mostly
>>55349643
post a link to a thread that has any of those in it
>>55349653
...it happens at random
Seriously you guys have balls. Even just connecting to the Internet puts you at risk. I feel safe posting here though because I have Norton so you can't hack me and then also ZoneAlarm that tells me if anyone even tries.
Really cool stuff and you will be surprised how unsafe you really are.
>>55349673
>norton
Ahhh, there she is
>>55349588
>with no issues so far
That you're aware of.
Stealth botnet and mail relays have come a long way.
If your PC is fairly husky and your internet uncapped you might not notice.
It's only when your credit card(s) bounce that you'll realise what's going on.
>>55349673
Nice bait, you almost had me.
>>55349683
>>55349808
Thanks lads, I made a good run at it but in the end I just didn't have what it took.
>>55349299
there haven't been any major updates since fall last year.
it's only been security updates and drivers for me.
>>55350168
>updates set to defer
>rig still reboots pretty often for updates
What the heck, how are you supposed to use Windows to actually DO anything when it updates itself all the time!?!?
>>55350277
are you sure that you actually got all updates after you installed windows last?
and I havent had to reboot my computer in a long time due to updates, so it's probably defering them that's doing it
>>55350305
Sorry for the poor resolution, the monitor attached to this PC is only 1080p. In the previous scrot you can see I have selected the defer upgrade option yet I still get updates almost every day
>>55350331
>>55350305
Actually, looking at it it's like the same update every day roflmao
>>55350343
>>55350331
>>55350305
Looking into it further, Windows Defender just has new definitions every day or something. It's working as intended. Still have to reboot once every 2 weeks or so which is annoying. I go to use some service this machine provides only to find my shit has rebooted
>>55350397
windows defender updating doesn't force you to restart
at least it never has for me
>>55350420
Well I guess it doesn't reboot as often as I thought. Confirmation bias I guess.
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/make-windows-10-notify-you-before-downloading-or-installing-windows-updates
This worked when I tried 10 to get my digital entitlement. It notified me updates were available to download for 3-4 days without actually forcing me to install them. I eventually downloaded them by choice so don't know how long I could've waited.
The automatic restarts or whatever only happen to people who too stupid to do a bit of problem solving.
>>55350651
I just thought LTSB was only supposed to get serious updates so it surprises me when it reboots.
I could disable the automatic installation or whatever, but that's something that only normies pretending to be smart do.
>>55349597
Avast is just as good as ever, it's just that the GUI is annoying now
This is why I've stuck with Novell 3.12 to avoid all this malware.
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
