Looks like the Polaris 11 chip will be sold without full fat in the Radeon RX 460, the full thing has 16 CU.

According to them, obscene amount of TDP goes into the fucking gddr5 memory.
RX 470: 110W full card, only 85W the GPU chip.
RX 460: 75W full card, only 48W the GPU chip.
RX 480: 150W card, 110W GPU chip.
I wish HBM got mainstream already, what a waste of performance.

the fundamental operations of opening (sensing/latching) rows and selecting columns is a much bigger long-term problem, since it's not really scaling down well at all with new process nodes, and it implies there might be intractable per-access energy costs that will eventually overtake that will overtake those of computation in future GPU-type architectures.
the DRAM power wall is a real thing, and HBM style approaches only push it back a few years.
Technically GDDR5X is supposed to drop the power a bit, but it probably won't be nearly as good as HBM.
It has lower voltage and the 10gbps parts GTX1080 has have lower real clock than the stuff RX 480 and GTX 1070 have.
