Is it really worth it to start to get into the habit of using this piece of shit or should I just stick with google?
>>
Stick with Google.
>>
>>55334193
Use it OP, google is crooked
>>
>>55334193
It doesn't matter if you use google, duckduckgo, bing or yahoo search. If they want to track you they will use Palantir .
>>
startpage
>>
>>55334262
I use this
It's kinda shit though
>>
>>55334193
stick with google
>>
>>55334193
What >>55334262 said. It's google without the tracking. It's a bit on the slow side though.
>>
>>55334193
Only if your tin foil hat is starting to rust. Otherwise stick with Google.
>>
>>55334193
Google is part of PRISM (google it).

DuckDuckGo is made by a guy who owned a dataminding service before, it also doesn't provide source code.

Level up to searx.
>>
>>55334312
>It's google without the tracking.

*enhanched with google search*

Yep totally not tracking
>>
>not using DDG for bangs
>>
>>55334350
You simple minded son?

That is their entire thing. It literally takes google's results and removes the tracking leading back to you.

From googles their perspective it's startpage making searches and that's all the information they have.
>>
Google gives the best search results.

Even Startpage, which takes its results straight from Google, does not turn up nearly as many results as Google actually does.

I've tested for useful results from different search engines by searching for a username I've used on some forums/sites. Google pulled up a lot of results (20+) while DDG and Startpage only had a few, I think something like 2 or 3 results on one and 4 on the other... much less than what Google pulled up.

If you use use an inferior search engine, you might miss results that offer exactly what you're looking for.

Is it really worth the trade-off?
>>
>>55334389
What about searx? I find that it keeps all the google results.
>>
>>55334389
>use ddg
>use !g in case you can't find something
Wow, so hard.
>>
>>55334193
No, it's shit. Use ixquick or startpage if you don't wanna be a part of the botnet.
>>
>>55334476
This desu.
Just make sure to goto settings and route to EU servers instead of US or "quickest" (for that added dose of paranoia)
>>
>>55334425
I haven't really used it... I did a few searches just now but I am on mobile and its hard to tell... I will definitely check it out more thoroughly later though.

>>55334439
I pretty much always prefer the results from Google. I've used both DDG and Startpage for a couple months each (not at the same time) and once in a while I double checked with Google and always came up with better results. I actually tried using Google as little as possible during these periods but I still found myself having to go back.
>>
>>55334547
I find myself using Google maybe once a week. What obscure shit are you searching for?
>>
How do you fuckers reverse image search sans google without getting garbage results?

>>
Everything else aside, I've been using DDG for a few years now and bangs make it the best default search engine imo.

Love bangs.
>>
>>55334569
Really weird shit sometimes, but lots of normal shit as well.

I do lots of searches about basically anything and everything that I am curious or have questions about, which is a lot of things.
>>
>>55334193
no, its "family friendly". theyve completely forgotten why people might want to have privacy in the first place. i dont have cookies enabled and i don't save history. but it defaults to safe search enabled every god damn time i go to the website unlike google. its going for the "family safe" angle well fuck them. its a pain in the ass to revert every time i want to watch some degenerate porn fuck them
>>
sure, especially in technical questions i find ddg to often be better. i havent used google in over a year
>>
>>55334620
fuck off degenerate. why would you not care about privacy except when it comes to your taste in porn? you are the reason for 1984
>>
>>55334620
You go to settings then choose what you want, hit the make link button and set that as your default search page.

What reason do you fuckers have for believing DDG isn't tracking you as much as any other search engine?
>>
sometimes DDG says at the bottom of the page they are Yandex powered or something

is that not botnet?
>>
>>55334618
Also...
I always fact check things over multiple websites or look for higher quality articles... on the search engines I've tried that aren't Google, I can find results for most things but not as big of a selection of sites with that type of information or content that I'm looking for.

I try to find the best sources to go off of when I'm on a searching craze.

I'm not sure you know what planet you're on. Not only do they not risk getting sued if they track all their users and and hand over all that data to any law enforcement agency that asks, it is literally a federal crime for them to refuse to and an even bigger one to simply disclose that they have even been asked to do it.

It's more about google having access to your information so it can cater the searches to things related to you and your interests.

SPAGE

While people use Google as adjective, I'll say, just SPage it. It's easy to just SPage everything. When someone needs a solution, I say just SPage it or SP is your friend.
>>

How about "search it up" or "use a seach engine"?

right, so google cant place traits from your searches on you, cus you use startpage as a proxy

but startpage can extract traits from your searches, and place them onto you

I use it but I find myself needing to go back to Google about once a week to find results on very specific topics. Duckduckgo seems to be great for debugging errors when I'm working on websites though.

>implying that using a proxy is enough to keep you from being identified
Your list of system fonts alone is enough to fingerprint you if you've ever downloaded a custom font or even just installed a game or program that used a custom font. You have no idea how hopeless it is fighting it.
>>
>>55335125
Except they don't collect any data. They neither record your IP address nor store any data. So there's nothing they can really do to tie your searches.
>>
>>55335164
According to them. As has been covered in this thread already, if any law enforcement agency, from the NSA to your local sheriff, did so much as email them a request it would be illegal for them to not start recording your IP and searches and it would even be illegal for them to tell you about it.

That is the world you live in.
>>
>>55335189
Well sure, but that's a different beast really. But the simple truth is, Statpage is Google without the tracking. When using it google won't build up a profile on you.
>>
>>55335220
>that's a different beast really
No it absolutely isn't. What do you even mean?
>>
>>55335236
I mean that using startpage won't make google build up a personal dossier for your account or IP address because they will never see your IP address.

And startpage won't have one either because they don't store anything about you, unless the government forces them to do it which can't really be avoided due to how the internet and laws works unless they move their entire operation to something like TOR, which I think they actually have a website on.
>>

>personal dossier for your account or IP address
Nigga what year are you in? This isn't September 10th, 2001. Nobody makes requests for individual IPs anymore. That's not how this shit works. If they want information on the user of a site they take ALL information on ALL users past, present, and future. If that site doesn't track their users already they are required by law to start.

Agreed, it's not like you have to stop masturbating forever, just not every day. Like any activity, doing it too much isn't good. Self-discipline is good.

Internet porn specifically can also develop into an addictive habit for reasons that you can look into.
>>
>>55334372
This. Bangs.
thousands of ready made search keywords.
Also duckduck passes google advanced search operators to google if you use google bangs.
startpage doesn't.
example: try "!gi gigi inurl:domai" at ddg,
then try "gigi inurl:domai" on startpage image tab.
ddg's own search form returns crap results, tho.
>>

>based in US is worse

That's not a reliable indicator any more. The NSA is bound by no law when it comes to foreign companies, so it would seem that they would be more likely to be corrupted. Also alot of foreign countries have similar setups to the NSA with their companies.

>>55334346
