>what can I do in terms of upgrades?
throw it out and buy a chalkboard

another thinkpad function: chalkboard

>price tag's just paper with cellophane tape
Mad jelly. My local Goodwill uses stickers with super glue-like adhesive and the retards love putting them directly on screens of practically anything possible.

Mine writes it on with a permanent marker. With a little rubbing alcohol, I can make my own prices.

I stopped using a T40 because it was basically unusable on the modern internet.
Also, no 10-bit anime.
Just cough up $60 and buy a core 2 duo thinkpad made this century.

Xubuntu. It'll save you some good RAM, OP.
>$3 for a laptop at Goodwill
>must be one shitty Goodwill
>you'd be lucky to find a washcloth for $3 at the Goodwill stores here in Las Vegas
>that laptop would have a $95 sticker on it or higher even if it was busted, broken, had the hinges torn off, missing port covers, no hard drive, no adapter, nothing
>shitty parts of the country have extremely low prices at Goodwill
>amazing

all you can do really is to upgrade it's RAM. You can only go as far as 1 Gigabyte.
At this point you have 2 choices:
-Install Windows 98SE or XP and play 90s games
-Install a light linux distro and use it for non-gaming stuff, like a home server (owncloud and stuff)

we don't know because you told us nothing about it
just kit it out to max spec itemized in http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T30 and dualboot it with XP and debian/BSD or something

i already have a T400, not like this is my only laptop. was just curious about what kind of stuff i can use it for at this point in time.
