Sure, I don't exactly care for reviewing others' purchases either but you can have an honestly good question about a certain headphone which boils down into asking our opinion on them. The turntable I have is feeding the sound through Red/White Stereo cords, & it has a PHONE port (all the way on the bottom left on my picture) All I did was plug the AKG Q 701 into the PHONE port & it just works.
Sounds beautiful. BTW, not talking about a regular headphone jack. It has to be one of those huge ones or you won't be able to feed it anything. My AKG Q 701 had two sets of cords so I just used the bigger one.

How should I put it? If I didn't need the isolation, I would pick the DT880. If I did, I wouldn't miss the DT880 listening to a DT770. But that's my preference.
The 880 reigns in the highs some, and reduces the bass level generally, to that extent that DT880 lacks some subbass. DT770 has a bit of low mid suckout common to closed headphones that DT880 doesn't have.
I find soundstage one of the more annoying subjects to talk about. It relates to the FR, which you can control. It might relate to the shape of the headphone, which you can see. It does depend on your mind, which is suggestible. And after hundreds of headphones, none have the "expansive" soundstage an audiophile reviewer might wax about.

Cozy fit is not totally there, as with most portable headphones. Having said that, it fits "neutral" the closest of the closed sets on the market. Its sensitivity is fairly high, so that it can be powered from just about any device (excluding other potential issues mobo headamps have).
The larger DT770 would be an improvement in comfort, but it is more distinctly V-shaped. You can fix it with parametric EQ, and I advise you to at least try to learn how to use one either way.
Down the price scale, the Brainwavz HM5/NVX XPT100, which have a bit of bass boost to them.

Anyway, one way to get something semi-objective is to see who is talking about what. For instance, k7xx is absolutely _not_ marketed at the same people as k702. I'll let you guess what sort of demographic is on massdrop. Hint: just look at popular drops.
Anyway, if you look around, k702 is people needing reference headphones. If you want precision, fuck the k7xx and get the k702.

I got a buzzing in the right side of my chink phones, it has only started this week and only when a certain volume level/frequency causes it to buzz. And by buzz I mean a part is physically vibrating creating this noise and feeling. I can't search for a solution because any form of buzz brings up unrelated kinds of buzzs.

The DT770 is heavily v-shaped, which is increased bass and treble response with recessed mids.
The MSR7 is somewhat neutral but slightly increased treble response which may make things like 's' and cymbals hurt and no where near the bass _amount_ of the DT770.

The 7506 is built like a tank, which is valuable to anyone, audiophile or not, sounds great for the price too.
Stock pads are the only problem since they don't lady long, but they can be replaced by the Auray ones, they last much longer and are more comfortable.

You bought the bassiest version of a normally bright (k701/2 Q701/2) headphone that went neutral (k712). You didn't do too badly, but maybe don't always buy the newest iteration of a product before looking for opinions.
Depends on your source as to whether or not a DAC is strictly necessary. It will outstrip any pc onboard save for the few recent high end boards that have a sabre DAC onboard. Your main problem is probably your music library. Upgrade that to cd rips and then bother with a DAC/AMP.

The reason you would get another Digital-Analogue Converter is for noise issues, interference, or because you wanted more outputs. Not much else, and they aren't built to drive headphones/speakers directly without an amplifier in between.
Amplifiers amplify. That's what they do, and audio amplifiers should be free of distortion doing it. They serve a secondary purpose of impedance buffer, but that comes later.

My only explanation is that the k550 must have gone through revisions at some point; I own one of the original pairs and it is absolutely not v-shaped, and for direct comparison I have both k702 and hf5 here. Certainly, the k7xx was absurdly bass heavy when compared alongside my other headsets, something I did a few weeks ago.

The only revision I know is the K550 mk2 released late 2015.
I first posted my surprised impressions on the substantial subbass (and treble peaks) of the K550 around 2012, since the only other AKG I bothered to hear then was the K701.
The V-shape is somewhat present in Tyll's very early measurements, but there's a wide distribution of results that muddles that.
A 10+ dB low end lift comes across more clearly in Harman's own measurements, released early in the product life cycle.
The headphone is very obstinate when it comes to fit, and a less than perfect fit dramatically changes the result. The headphone padding does not help. The smaller K545 manages to be even worse.

Okay, what you write is very interesting. I am embarrassed to say I never considered fit and padding when assessing and discussing the k550. Unless you tell me the mk2 revision was major (my own pair dates from 2013), this would then form a fairly likely explanation of my listening discrepancies. This makes me wish I took the time to carefully adjust my headphones myself, as no doubt there are headsets I've tried and disliked where the issues could be remedy by some easy tweaking.
Have you disassembled the various AKG "flagships", meaning k702, k550, k712, k7xx, etc.? I wonder how much differences come down to driver tuning, padding, etc., rather than drivers themselves. I found the differences between the k7xx, k702, and k550 drastic, but some people say k702 vs k7xx is just a question of padding and headband ..

Logitech G50, I think that was the number for them, they're the wired versions of the G930 and with much better plastic.
I liked the cord braid, it didn't get caught under my chair a lot. The buttons were nice for changing tracks while laying in bed but that's not a big feature. It was pretty sturdy. Sounded alright but nothing spectacular. Eventually the band broke, I think they lasted 5 years.
Sennheiser 595's
They were very comfortable, I really liked the soundstage for things like audio recordings, movies, and games.
The pads ripped while I was removing them to take them off, maybe I was being too rough but that's the only way to get them off. After 5 years the right cup broke off at this hinge, it's currently duct tapped to the band.

I don't know what the mk2 entails, nor have I gone out of my way to hear it.
I've never had opportunity to tear apart the K712/7XX, or had the time to listen carefully.
Padding primary effect is in the bass and midrange, affecting leakage. Open headphones tend to be less susceptible to these effects, since there is usually a decent bit of leak built into the driver mounting plate. This weakens the ability of open dynamics to produce loud bass below 30-40 Hz, but it reduces the effect of fitting at the pads.
Some people blame leak on the K701's bass troubles, I'm not sure. The K701 bass consistency falls short of the best, but it can do a decent job managing it as most open dynamics do.
I have some slides on that, but I'm a bit weary to look for it right now.
Pad thickness and earpad acoustic absorbency can have some effect in the high frequencies, mainly to do with complicated wave behavior. Senn HD 600/650 pads reduce the treble level as they age and wear out, and flattening new pads does something similar.

DN-2000J is nice if you want a V-shape or liked the AKG K3003, but didn't want to pay for it. It pretty much sounds just like the K3003, but made more cheaply.
2000J has the bass boost nozzle thing you can add on, but the vent it covers does double duty as depressurizer; the membrane will crinkle because you closed the vent that let air out easily.
I recall the MDR-Z5 being V-shaped but in different way compared to the default 2000J/K3003. More bassy with peaks higher up compared to the 2000J, which tends to brightness with peaks around 6 kHz and the canal resonance.

Just done another quick test straight to on board, straight into my usb dac and then finally through both my o2 amp and usb dac and they get better in that order. It's all slight differences once you have a good pair of headphones but I'm just glad to confirm my amp and dac are making a difference. A lot of it is and the main ingredient by FAR is the headphone. My o2 isn't actually the amp+dac combo, it's just the amp and I combine it with a HifiDiyme Sabre dac because it's cheaper. It's supposed to be really good for the money and a couple of people have said that it's 90% as good as the o2 dac for example, it only cpst £40 so that's good enough for me.
I bought the dac to make my setup silent and to remove 'noise' that my pc puts out. I honestly think that amps and dacs make a small difference, but i'm planning on having my o2 for life as long as it doesn't break so i'm not worried anyway. I also like the fact that it has it's own power sauce as apposed to the e10k which needs a pc for example, I can use my o2 with my ps4 etc whereas plugging headphones straight into the ps4 controller doesn't give enough volume. It's very handy, would I buy another expensive amp?, probably not.

I've just tested my on board vs my o2 amp vs my o2 amp+ sabre dac again and the amp+dac is definitely the best out of the three. It's a small change for the amount of money but it is making an improvement. Find a song with detail that kicks in instantly and switch bewtween onboard and the o2 and you should be able to hear the difference. Your o2 combo should technically be very slightly better than my setup so I wouldn't worry about 'wasting' money if you like this hobby enough. Just don't upgrade it lel, you're set for life unless you get bored of the headphones for some reason after a long time.

okay, I did my own listening test, with proper cabling so I could just click a button on my laptop to switch around without interrupting anything. The thing I was initially listening to wasn't precise enough and things sounded basically the same, so I switched to something with many layers and lots of percussion, and now the difference really stood out.
