Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bait to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!
>>

Seriously though what is so hard about coding a configuration dialog? It's possibly the easiest part of developing any application.
>>
>>55322247
1) The traditional method of reading the manpage and putting options into a text file or specifying them on the command line is better than graphical configuration

2) mpv currently doesn't require any graphical toolkit like GTK or Qt, adding those are huge ugly dependencies.

3) It would be developed just to appease CIA nigger cattle who are too dumb to use a computer
>>
It's not justa bout the customization, MPV is good too because it's lightqeight as fuck. It's the only player that played 10 bit and high bitrate 1080p files flawlessly on my chink tablet. VLC, MPCHC, WMP all choked while MPV was smooth sailing

here's the thing though: requiring the user to use a command line to read the instructions on how to use a command line to edit the options in a text file is 80's design. it's a complicated way to make a simple fucking feature. AN OPTIONS DIALOG TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO A FEW HOURS TO CODE, TOP, AND IT AVOIDS ALL THE PROBLEMS OF OPTION TEXT FILES.

Yeah, this is pretty much why I didn't switch from VLC to MPV. I like how speedy and precise MPV is, but I also like having the option to fucking use my mouse. It honestly feels like they were too lazy to make a standard UI or they ported it from a touch screen app or some shit.

Why not at least have the option to enable a standard gui?
>>
>>55327819
having all commands mapped to keys is much more simple and efficient than a menu system, and the entire point of mpv is that it is modular, so you can create your own scripts that do what you want, or just fork it and make your own that has a menu system built in

Why do so many people use it, if it's bad? What is better?

A blond Linus Thorvald?

Oh please don't use deprecated technologies!
>>
>>55339324

People use it because muh open sores and it's a meme player.

It's consistently shit on every platform i've run it, with weird bugs, crashes and horrendeous rendering.

Because they wanted something better than WMP and all/most software sites recommend VLC.

VLC has had noticeably more exposure IRL too, it's been distributed on various magazine's software discs etc.
My oldest one with VLC is like from 2003

Don't even get me started on libass which was added August/September 2008, before that VLC couldn't even show ASS/SSA subs (standard soft subs in animu).

Also most of those shitty software sites make you think you need a codec pack for using MPC-HC, which you obviously don't.

To be more frank, they wanted to get away from:
- WMP
- Real Player
- DivX Player
- Quicktime Player
- Codec Packs in general
- Other non-free Software Players (Though VLC users have a weak understanding of FOSS)

Good taste.

Also - just use mpc-hc. It werks, is customizable.

If any program did this, no one would use it, because it would be literally unusable.

If you didn't make it up, then this was obviously an issue with your system, not VLC itself. I've used VLC on a variety of distros and Windows and never had this problem.

I meant that the .conf file he seemed to be looking for didn't exist. Yes, he can always copy the example and fuck around with that or just make an empty one and copy someone's .conf from the /mpv/ general

That's a blatant lie, mpv users don't attend php class.
