Are there any cars that respect my freedom? What are some of /g/'s recommended cars?
>>
You don't save hardly any money by changing your oil yourself instead of someone like Valvoline. There's no point to do it yourself anymore.

Having someone else build your computer for you costs hundreds extra in comparison to the maybe $10 extra you pay for it to be done in 5 minutes by a garage.
>>
>>55317460
Didn't cost me hundreds, just 10 bux.

The fuck is that? You mean a mechanic? Where the fuck are you from?
>>
>>55317460
Not really, prebuilts are no longer built with massive profits anymore, you barely save any money building your own pc.

Anything with an analog radio (or none) and carbs instead of FI.

> mfw only have a 20 year old carbed motorbike
> only electronics are lights, ignition and heated grips
> do all maintenance and repairs except changing tires myself (and new fork seals when I didn't want to make a mess at home -- got ripped off that time)

It's about getting exactly what you need without wasting money going over. Unless you buy from Best Buy you're not getting screwed too badly if something happens to have the components you need.

I seriously hope you don't do this.

There is if you care about your car. I won't ruin my drain plug or not use a crushed washer. Nothing gets spun on with a fucking impact wrench when I do it.

The average idiot should have a decent mechanic, as hard as that is to find, do the work on their car. But me? I've been shown I can't trust anyone to do it the right way except for me.

Some people don't even change their own tires, lel
>>
>>55318731
That's pretty standard on motorcycles that aren't cheap shit or old as fuck.
>>
>>55318757
How is that weird? Mounting and balancing machines aren't cheap and uncommon. With how long tires last the cost of purchasing equipment and the time sunk into reading how to use it wouldn't be worth it for the average person.

>>55318761
Mine's both lel. Good heated grips run you only like 60 € and a half hour to put them on though.
>>
>>55318777
The fuck are you talking about? Only equipment you need come with the car.
>>
>>55318518
this

Working on my car after taking it to a mechanic is fucking impossible. I have to use a breaker bar on everything.

Sure, but I've bought my bikes used (so probs in the old as fuck category). Living in a cold country with a short summer is a fucking pain without heated grips.
>>
>>55318851
Lel, enjoy paying for something the mechanics convinced you need
>>
>People who get upset over how others spend their money

I drive an early 90's toyota camry and working on it is a fucking dream. I haven't been to a mechanic in a decade. Everything is easily accessible and parts are cheap as fuck. Meanwhile I've tried working on my girl's late 00's chrysler and it's an absolute fucking nightmare. They even pointed the oil drain plug towards the middle of the car so you have to jack the thing up to change the oil, unreal.
>>
i let professionals assemble my parts because i'm afraid to break something. i know it's easy, but i'd rather not risk my 2000 euro investment.
>>
>>55318877
Yes the mechanics convinced me I need a mounting and balancing machine to change a tire, not the actual physics of changing a tire.

Stop.
Acting.

decided to change my own exhaust system on pickup to save some bucks.
Price out all parts from napa, canadian tire, etc.
Cheaper to take it to budget or midas.

It's not the 60s anymore gramps. Tires don't have tubes now and are difficult to seat properly.

That's bullshit. I can get a six quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 for ~$30 with tax, and a good oil filter for $37, or less than $40 out the door. (Auto parts shops will dispose of the used oil free of charge).

Meanwhile my brother used a $7 off coupon at valvoline to get the same oil put in his accord (full synthetic, probably valvoline brand, comparable to mobil 1) and an OK filter and it was just short of $80 with tax.

Essentially, $160/hr in labor, since an oil change takes 15 minutes ($40 difference).
>>
>>55317711
Not true. The manufacturer makes the baseline cheap, then charges well in excess of the cost of upgrades for the actual upgrades. They might charge you actual price to go from Windows 10 to Windows 10 Pro (or close to it), but then they'll charge you $800 to go to 16GB of RAM.

>>55318930
Bull fucking shit. The oil drain is on the underside of most vehicles, as is the oil filter (or in the engine compartment). The oil filter can be removed by hand or use of an old leather belt, the drain plug can be removed by hand. Buy a new filter, buy the oil, buy a $2 pan from the auto parts store or the home depot, a $1 plastic funnel and you have all the parts you need. (Occasionally you need a socket set but those are less than $30, and that's a one time purchase).
