I'm so sick of losing bros. I've tried to stick by them but I can't handle another disaster on par with pic related. I just can't. They've had my loyalty since that first ATI Radeon card came with my $200 Laptop that I got in early 2010 on my 12th birthday. But I think it's time to move on. I don't want to blindly follow if they're just going to turn around and spit in my face again like this. I won't. All I wanted was a VR ready card for less than $200 that could at the very least play Witcher 3, a year old game, at 60 frames per second. But they couldn't even manage that. I'm done.

AMD is 2 generations behind or more. For competition reasons this is absolutely terrible for consumers. The GTX 970 is the single most owned card on the market and that is a 2 year old card. The 490(x) needs to pick up the slack on the 480 and match at the absolute minimum a 980 ti, leaving the new furry to challenge the 1070 and 1080. But as you can see, yet again, AMD is a non competitor.
Any reason to buy a 480 if you plan to use it with Linux? I've never used AMD with Linux before and heard that it is sub par.

A flagship card on a new node is a high-risk project, potentially catastrophic. Remember Fermi? Ati had demo'd the 40nm process before with the 4770, which meant that they could release the 5850 on 40nm in high quantities, huge performance increase over their last generation, and half a year earlier than Fermi. Meanwhile Fermi was late, had crap yields, was hotter than hell, and wasn't available for a month after its paper launch.
AMD is probably doing a mid-range card first for that reason.
