systemd is a capitulation of concept in a sense, as software projects age and become more bloated, you need more bloated software to manage all that other bloat. then the bloat becomes so confusing that when you realize you want to cut it out, you can't because some very fundamental system component relies on it in a very small way but can't function without it. On the flip side, normies love bloat so yeah.
