HAS ANYBODY ELSE SEEN THIS SHIT?

>Microsoft has made a seemingly small yet completely bizarre tweak to Windows Update on Windows 7 and confirmed it is crippling many users’ PCs.

>The tweak? It switched the status of Windows 7 update KB3133977 from ‘Optional’ to ‘Recommended’. The bizarre part? Despite acknowledging the problems, Microsoft knew they would occur in advance and it has no plans to do anything about it.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2016/05/04/microsoft-warns-windows-7-boot-up-problem/#72ebefdf395e

My PC has been having trouble booting up in the past few days and I'm freaking out. I don't know whether it's a hardware issue or just related to this update. Coincidentally, this started happening AFTER i installed that update. Though my motherboard isn't an ASUS.

Can I uninstall that update (or any update for that matter) without it having any negative side effects?
>>
Yes. Google how.
>>
>>55305345

Who here is actually stupid enough to download any update on windows 7 without first vigorously researching it first? None of them can be trusted, especially the "recommended" ones.

Half of what has been released in the last year is best hidden and never downloaded.
>>
>>55305388
This.

If you're forced to use it at work the sys admin should research everything first anyway. Automatic updates are disabled.
If you're at home it's your own god damn responsibility. Automatic updates are disabled too.

There is no reason to turn on automatic updates on ANY program, especially not payware, closed-source and in the case of Windows, spyware.

I also hate the forced auto-updates (and driver updates) and not being able to being able to choose what the fuck it downloads and installs.

Not enough games utilize DirectX 12 to make it worth upgrading either.

This can't be happening! But we all know this would happen, it won't be long until they make windows 7 unbootable and the only fix is to "looks like your pc cannot boot. Install windows 10, it's free*** and secure. It will fix your pc problems".
>>
>>55305634

I had a 7 box straight up fail to boot after installing updates. Got to the point of manually rebuilding the BCD. Didn't loose any data and it was time for a reinstall on that partition anyways, still annoying though. I haven't booted Windows on that machine in months though.
>>
>>55305506

You can configure it to not force updates or anything. Whenever I there's one for me I get a notification saying there is and whether or not it installs. The interface, though, yeah, can't help you there.

My dad has a relatively old computer that worked fine on W7.

But recently it started using 100% of the cpu as soon as it starts up without actually having anything running.
Even when nothing except Windows services start up with it.

Only at this point? When it comes to updates you shouldn't have any trust in Microsoft to begin with. This isn't the first time they fucked with windows updates. Some examples:

KB2823324 - bluescreen of death update
KB2803821 - broke some games on Steam
KB2821895 - high cpu usage on windows 8 from broken file checker

And now you have Windows 10 where updates are automatic and can only be deferred or delayed, but you nonetheless have to install them.

This problem is MONTHS old. If you have the problem, the solution is to make an easy change in your BIOS/UEFI, not uninstall the update.

I have 64 bit Windows 7 and an ASUS motherboard with that update installed. Why does my computer boot properly?

One month left to upgrade to Windows 7 wife's boyfriend edition.
>>
>>55305467
Is it just me or did it get a bit shilly in here with that comment?

Probable truth of the question as to "why did microshaft do this?"
To try and force people to upgrade to windows 10. They have been doing everything they can think of to get peoole on 10.
Baiting you with "its totally free! Here have it for free go for it!"
Later
"Oh you have automatic updates turned on? Cool, we will just use that as a security exploit to force you to upgrade to windows 10 whether you like it or not"
Now:
"Hey yer still on 7? Huh, want 10? No? Huh.. ok here have an update that breaks 7. hah we broke your computer! But we can fix it. All you have to do us take the upgrade to windows 10. Dont worry, its "free"
All you have to do is letusseeeverytinydetailofeverysinglethingyoudowithyourcomputer its totally not an invasion of privacyvwe swear. But then again you said it was ok for us to do this because you signed the eula to install 10 so tjat your computer wouldnt be broken anymore from that update we forced on you.

Guys, Microsoft is seriously being hardcore shady and evil.
There has to be something more we can do other than making scrubbed copies of 7 that dont ask to authenticate.
Seriously thinking about linux.
But i am a noob at linux.
What is a good userfriendly linux for noobs that works with everything on the same level as windows?

Some woman won a lawsuit after a forced upgrade.

Just sue them. Heck, if many are affected, go full class action on their ass.

They will start bundling their spyware in security updates too, if they haven't already. The only solution is to disconnect your windows partition from the Internet and use it as a gaming box.

how to make your OS business rolling? Two ways
>hire pajeets on cheap and put together a new OS built on same old shit, heavily advertise and shove it down users throats

>spend time and money rewriting your OS to be good and stable and resourceful so people actually like it and buy it

wew, wonder which path MS chose :^)

Don't worry op, we all lived through this shit until we stopped using that abortion of an OS.

Very few good games will run on Linux, most vidya is depended on direct X.

Microsoft is literally killing it by forcing people out of seven into ten.

Shaking my head at windows users every day.

- winbabby a makes jokes of winbabby b for having updates enabled

- winbabby c makes jokes of winbabby a for having his system riddled with malware

- winbabby d laughts about winbabby c, who thinks updates prevent malware

- winbabby e is sort of sad, his os just rebooted and he lost all his work

- winbabby f is happy, NO_TELEMETRY_ULTIMATE_PREMIUM_by_xXDimitryXx.exe disabled all the spying

- while winbabby g is busy searching the web for new microsoft ips he wants to block with his hostsfile, winbabby h enjoys the newest game torrented from piratebay (the ULTIMATE PREMIUM version)

>It was the only comment that had the usually ice-cool Mr Nadella a little riled.

Once the win10 bullshit and telemetry started going to it I disabled windows updates.
>>
>>55331914

or, you know, just see what the updates are befoer you install them and be perfectly fine. but that requires reading, and like, thinking. Better just do a pacman -syu and go jerk off to anime.
