How hot should a laptop i7 run? I bought a new lenovo y500 (its unused, one of the last pieces produced was lying about in a warehouse the past year or two, vendor is reliable did business with him before) and its Intel Core i7 3630QM was running as hot as 65C idling which spiralled my assburgers. Turned out it was a windows 8 shitty update process hogging the processor power turned it off
Now its around 48-55 with light browsing and steam downloading
is this too much?

Set the max load to 96% and it will disable turbo boost and run much cooler with little performance loss

mine goes up to 98C before problems start occuring, and this only happens when gayming on a extra hot day

My previous laptop was HP and I got all autistic whenever it passed 75C which it almost never did under max load

Yes

my laptop is fine after 3 years, but i do gaymen only once a month or so
run a stress test on gpu and cpu at the same time and monitor the temps
laptop mobos can usually withstand high temps without any damage, you'll probably only need to change the thermal paste every once in a while
Lenovo50-70 here.
Gpu goes up to 99degrees under load,cpu 70-80.

I think I was looking at one of these before I got my previous laptop. Pretty sure "poor cooling" was one of the reasons I didn't end up getting it.
A 3610QM idles at a whopping 38C in what I got instead. So yeah, it's a bit warm.

I got same laptop and when i do some "internet stuff", i have 55*C on CPU, 43-47*C on GPUs.
While im gayming (depends on game) 70-85*C on CPU, 70-97*C on GPUs and all of this on fresh thermal paste.
So those are normal temps for this toaster.
