Keep in mind that $200 for a microphone is nowhere near the "best."
They can go up to several thousand dollars. In the professional setting, $100-200 is the baseline entry level, and what a lot of, say, YouTubers use.
Zalman is if you have no budget but need some way to talk.
Samson Go is the best bang for your buck, and sounds fantastic for a sub-$100 mic.
Blue Yeti can be overly sensitive for most people, but is very versatile.
Rode NT-USB sounds better than the Yeti, and is probably the best sub-$200 USB mic I've heard.
AT2020 is a good entry level XLR mic. Needs a preamp.
AT2035 is a slight, but good upgrade to the AT2020. Needs a preamp.

When I was in college I got to rent extremely expensive mics. It was amazing hearing the difference between them and dreaming up what mics would work best in certain situations. The problem is, even though there is a difference between good mics and cheap mics, the difference comes down to timbre, which is notoriously hard to describe. So maybe a certain mic at a certain price point will work better for you, but it's still hard to choose when timbre is so subjective.

I use a Blue Yeti. I don't know much about audio hardware but wanted something that wasn't a piece of shit.
There are probably a lot of audio technicians cringing as they read this, since there are probably much cheaper microphones that are much better. To those audio technicians I say: Please tell me what those microphones are, so I know better next time.

Check out audio tests on YouTube of ModMic vs Samson Go.
Modmic tends to have a high noise floor, so a lot more background humming.
Samson Go is $10 cheaper and doesn't have that issue - can clip it onto your monitor or whatever, and you'll be fine.

Yeti's decent if you set it up right, like putting it in cardioid mode, turning down gain, and getting the custom shock mount or cutting out a piece of foam to put under the stand.
Pic related is my old mic setup before I sold my Yeti.
You can also use mixers or something like Audition's filters to help with audio quality as well.

Electrovoice is the best I've heard. A normal cheap dynamic mic like the Shure or clones is fine for pretty much any voice communication or podcast or youtuber. Condenser mics are annoying unless you have a studio to record in. They'll pick up every little noise in your environment.
