Just got the chip off the net from Chaptan of Weeabooland. Going to throw it into my X99 rig... Wish me luck.
>>
if it gives you issues check for a BIOS update.
>>
>>55284263
Don't fuck it up.
>>
>>55284277
The same place you get your dingle berries from
>>
Nice chip! What's the retail on one of those?
>>
>>55284375
about $700
>>
>>55284375
>>55284388
130 bucks
>it's posting
>>
>>55284508
Why is it jewing you 0.2 Ghz?
>>
It's an engineering sample. There's a cost of owning these
>This is why I'm documenting it. It's a cheap CPU for X99 that I'm going to make a video aboutabout in a week.
>>
>>55284574
Engineering samples are Intel property, so you might want to think twice about suggesting them if you have a legit site. Intel doesn't police the sales too hard, but if you start advertising them and advertising you have one, they're not likely to let that slide.
>>
What is the benefit of having such a chip? Are they any more impressive than the consumer chipset produced with the same specs?
>>
>>55284710
ECC memory support and no iGPU.
>>
>>55284532
Sorry
>>55284574

>>55284678
I'm not recommending this chip. This is a used X99 board, and I needed a chip to test in it. All my X99 chips are not in there, but my old ads Quadro is.

>>55284710
Other than getting into X99 easy, and getting on Intels' shot list... Not much. If X97 motherboards weren't so pricy used, that would be a better deal. The E5 2670 runs better than this, and it can be had for about 50 bucks.
>X99 is for peripherals, low end workstations, and enthusiast computer junkies
>>
>>55284574
Never used ECC memory before. Is it common to populate only one side with memory modules?
>>
>>55284753
Meant the sticks of ram themselves with the memory chips.

Do want. I need to get a fucking job so I can put together a 2P. x265 should be rolling out 2.0 soon and a quad just isn't going to cut it.

I buy 8 core chips for my last string test chips.

That CPU is 50~70 bucks due do a shot load being liquidated. It's the motherboards you need, but you can just wait those out on ebay/Craigslist.

Used to be that ES had unlocked multis, not sure if that's always the case anymore though. My W3680 ES has an unlocked multi.

That's actually me with an ivyb e5-2667v2. Have yet to get that bastard to post yet, waiting on a bios chip for the mobo right now. Then I'll start making plans for the case.

OP probably got his chip from the same nip, though.

Did you get any other chip to boot off that board?

I'm getting some sleep. Didn't sleep last night, and I need rest. Then I'm finishing an UBCD thrashing of my new budget rig.

2630v3 ES... DUH
MSI X99 SLI PLUS USB 3.1 varient
16GB 2133 Crucial memory Quad Channel
Nvidia Quadro 1700
Hyper Evo 212
Wireless N card

Most of this is old stuff that I had readily available. I bought the MoBo and CPU used. The RAM is new though. The only other thing is I'm using a Zowie mouse, and a Unicomp Terminal Keyboard.

Baseclock overclocking is still a thing though, but everything else gets hit when you do that

>>
>>55286558
Unfortunately I don't have a 2011 Sandy chip on hand to test with. But I got the board to power on, and the only error indication was the cpu led stayed lit solid. Unfortunately the P9X79 boards seem to have a common issue with the usb bios flashback, or I just don't know wtf I'm doing. But for 13$ I just bought an eeprom with the latest bios. (latest bios supports up to 128gb of ram good lawd.)

Post something that actually shows it being an es chip, because like mine it has all the retail printing on the ihs

http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/QG/QGZX.html

Yours should be labeled qgzx instead of sr206 if not labeled intel classified. Also, the drawback to the engineering samples that I found in my digging around is they don't have the turbo clocks, but may have some unlocked / missing features or instruction sets.

Really hoping mine doesn't have the turbo locked out, that's one of the biggest draws to the chip. But fuck, it'll still hopefully hit 4+ghz with little issue, hopefully.

Gave me a compatability error at post, but this chip is supposed to be compatable with the latest bios which I have. Need to figure out what this error code is for.

Looks like the guy before me tried installing his own bios chip and did it incorrectly, fucking thing popped right out, and one of the pins was bent.
>>
>>55287829

poor build quality, but atleast the bios does its job unlike in gigabytes x99 boards, where installing a non-supported memory kit/stick can brick the motherboard

if you are on budget,go for x99 extreme 3 or 4 from asrock, they should be around 200 eurobucks or dollars
>>
>>55284678
Are they any actual legal repercussions to owning them? Is this a case of at this point in time all of them should be intel's hands and they've been stolen?

Because those 2686 chips on ebay look very tempting regardless.
>>
Why are people dumb enough to fall for the ES chip meme?
>>
>>55290120

because stealing from intel is the right thing to do
>>
and why ES when you can have OEM-chips too?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E5-2683-V3-OEM-2-0Ghz-35MB-L3-14-Core-Max-Turbo-3-0Ghz-120W-CPU-/272254848452?hash=item3f63a74dc4:g:yi4AAOSwn8FXRsLx
>>
>>55290171
$20 says it's an ES, I wouldnt trust a chinese seller unless it had a picture with the S-code, and even then I wouldnt check it again when it arrives and still half expect it to be broken or defective.
>>
>>55290152
>buying shit that can be legally taken from you
>>
>>55290087
Intel is mostly concerned with blacklisting/suing the person who sold them. It's not only not worth their time and makes zero financial sense, but it would be bad publicity for them to go after the buyer. Though if you were to publicly source ES and treat them as some sort of legitimate alternative, you'd quite possibly be getting a letter from Intel legal asking you to cease and desist and demanding their property back.
>>
>>55290275
Hey, if they`d swap me for a retail copy, I`d be happy to send it back to them.
>>
>>55290387
Why would they ever in a million years send you a free chip to get their stolen property back?
>>
>>55290425
It`s not free, and I didn`t steal it. Plus there have been stories of such things happening and intel shipping people higher model chips in exchange.
>>
>>55290522
>stories
they're just stories anon, that doesnt generally happen.
>>
>>55290522
>It`s not free
Yes, it is. You give them nothing for it.
>I didn`t steal it
Then you should go to your local fencer's house and buy everything. When the cops come, just say you weren't stealing since you paid for it.
>>
>>55290565
I`d assume people don`t readily hand over shit without some form of compensation. You don`t really think intel would seriously be like "Oh thanks for contacting us about that, go ahead and send that back to us and get fucked." Whether it`s legally theirs or not, that would be insane.

>>55290590
Ignorance is key, how are you supposed to know what you`re buying from some guy on craigslist is stolen? Ultimately, if they were really that concerned about 3 year old chips. They wouldn`t be rampant on the internet.

ANyhow, I gotta go. Was fun while it lasted anons.

Yeah that covers my thoughts on this conversation that's going on. You don't buy burner chips when you expect to keep them.
>>
>>55284375
More than you can afford, Xeon.

Why the fuck would OP care what Intel thinks if OP isn't selling them? Intel isn't going to punish the buyer...
