So I've had an i7 4790k for a few months now on a stock cooler. I would've upgraded to a Hyper212 EVO but it won't fit in my computer case. I'm trying to encode on Handbrake which uses around a 90% load from my advanced settings and the temperatures go to high 80s/low 90s before I close the process so it doesn't overheat and shut down improperly.
Two questions then:
Is it recommended to turbo a 4790k on a stock cooler?
What aftermarket heatsink could you guys recommend that can actually fit in my computer case? No liquid cooling btw
No it isn't
Low 90s is really too hot.
Low 80s is the maximum you should really be comfortable with.
What you need to understand is that stock cooling is really fucking bad.
Short answer is: Anything that looks like it'll fit in your case.

What is your case? Probably something like one of the smaller noctua coolers should be fine.

Look into a Corsair H60. Most of the bulk is mounting the radiator and fan away from the cpu and it might fit better in your case. I'd post a pic of your guts
I have a 4690k clocked at 4.3 and 60% runs me around 45c.

it wont shut your computer off. thei7 4790k uses thermal throttling, when it reaches 100c itll throttle down the cpu to keep temp down. however as >>55284101 says, stock coolers suck balls. pretty much anything you get will work better.

nah, I've seen the 212 EVO in person a few times and did measurements. No way it's gonna fit in there.
As for budget, I got $100 to last me the week and then with my biweekly paycheck i should be good to buy dumb shit again

You could get an EKL Alpenfoehn Atlas or an Noctua NH-D9L. Both are under 125mm in height. Take off your Heatsink and measure from the CPU to the Sidepanel.
Get alpenfoehn atlas if you're from EU

Your CPU is throttling. Look for an aio that fits tour case, enable turbo, enable intergrated graphics and use Quicksync to encode
