I wrapped my Libreboot x200 in tin foil to keep the NSA from reading my files. I cut out openings for my GNU sticker and ThinkPad logo so people at my university can see that I support the GNU project and have a fine taste in hardware.

I'm concerned that the NSA's radio surveillance technology will be able to find its way into my laptop though these openings. Am I good to go, or should I make covers that I can remove when I want to show off?

If you can use the internet then they can access your memes

Thats not tin foil thats aluminum foil. You screwed up mate.

I have a VPN. I'm impervious to any man in the middle attack or ISP snooping.
>>
>>55275270
>wifi enabled
you are fucc'd boi
>>
>>55275258
Doesn't matter. Everybody knows that tin and aluminum are equally effective at blocking the NSA
>>55275306
I'm using a VPN, it doesn't matter if I'm using wifi. Bluetooth is the one that has to be disabled and I have it disabled. The x200 keeps the Bluetooth LED on even if it's disabled. I can't find out why.
>>
>>55275361
How do you know the VPN is secure and not a government honeypot?
Have you checked that your firmware is secure?
What about your operating system?
>>
>>55275398
Do you take me for a fool? The VPN company is based in Switzerland and I tested it to make sure it wasn't a honeypot.
I'm using Libreboot and audited the firmware myself, just to be safe. It's free and open source software, so it was easy to do.
My operating system is Trisquel GNU/Linux. I installed it off of my Free Software Foundation membership card. I don't think I need to explain further.
>>
>>55275500
Alright, have you checked your house and workplace for bugs?
>>
>>55275514
Yes, but one can never be too sure. A van does drive by every few days. It has the same license plate, but it has a different paint job each time it passes.

>no dragon dildo
>>
>>55275575
Why would I need a dragon dildo when Micro$haft fucks me everyday?
>>
>>55275559
Oh fuck, maybe you could setup a jammer and have it run when a car goes by
>>
>>55275361
You dumb fuck.
Aluminum foil AMPLIFIES the signals, it doesn't block them. Enjoy your botnet.
Also
>2016
>not doing anything to stop Van Eck phreaking
>not knowing that the gyroscope in your hard drive can be used as a microphone
>using a processor with the memory sinkhole
>no ECC RAM so vulnerable to rowhammer attack
>not using grsec
>not being able to set kernel parameter to deny inserted USB's
>not desoldering the microphone
>not realizing that the CPU microcode could communicate with the microphone regardless of libreboot
>not putting nail polish on the screws and taking high resolution pictures to ensure signs of tampering
>not removing the modem with DMA
>not knowing the Ethernet and wifi card has access to keyboard
>using xorg where any window can steal the contents of the clipboard or keystrokes
>not knowing that the sound card can change the headphone jack into a microphone Jack and use it to record rough the headphones
>not exclusively launching your browser in a sandbox
It's like you enjoy the botnet or something.

If I use a jammer, then I would have the FCC on my ass. That wouldn't improve my situation.
>>55275752
You don't know my setup. I know I can be more secure, but most of the points you brought up are things that I have addressed.
Example: It's 2016. Why do you assume that I'm using a mechanical hard drive? Shows how much you really know.

I removed the webcam, microphone, and desoldered any I/O from the motherboard. If I absolutely need to, I enter the radio proof closet in my basement, turn Bluetooth on for a brief moment and use that.

I had my laptop blessed by Richard Stallman IN PERSON. I removed the heresy known as vim to make Trisquel as pure as it should have been.

I run my browser in a sandbox and have to manually enable Javascript each time a page loads. I make sure the Javascript is ethical and secure before allowing it.

I make visitors check any electronics in a lead box. I have an RF detector and metal detector that I use to make sure they are safe.

In my head, where they should be. If you think torture will work on me, you fail to realize that I am always packing heat and have a cyanide pill with me at all times.
>>
>>55276195
I failed to realize that you meant where I store passwords on my machine.
I encrypt my SSD and use trisquel-keyring. It works.
>>
Best thread on /g/ right now.
Have you tried parabola?
I am tempted to switch from trisquel to it

The autism in this freetard makes me want to throw my t440 away and buy a Macbook
>>
>>55275752
Your forgetting to take the polarizing filter off your screen too.
>>
>>55276359
No. In the days before my enlightenment, I ran Arch and loved it until pacman updated too many packages that broke everything. I switched to Debian because I'd rather put up with apt-get and have a stable system.

>>55276402
Ew, a t440? You'd be better off with that MacBook.
>>
Have you seen a x200 screen before? If it isn't at full brightness, you need to be dead center to see anything.
>>
>>55276513
Memes aside, Parabola breaks a lot since the maintainer is really bad about not fucking up package signing. There's also the bullshit about randomly blacklisting packages that are 100% free software and even the GNU project says are okay because of some bullshit reason.
>>
>>55276583
And yes, pacman has broken xorg. It actually did that last week and I didn't find out until I got to work.
>>
They bounce an infrared laser off a flat surface anywhere near your laptop to steal your encryption keys by listening to your CPU.
>>
>>55276583
Yeah, that's a big part of why I avoided Parabola. AUR made Arch a lot more tolerable even with pacman breaking something occasionally.
>>55276685
pacman's speed is something I miss every time I use apt-get. You have to consider how much time you spend fixing things when they break and lots of Arch users don't take that into account.
>>55276717
That's what the foil is for. I also have a lot of white noise in my house to counter that.

Linux is a form of mental sickness; a security blanket left over from the childhood of the Computer Age. The sooner "Tux" and his travelling freak show pack it up and move on, the better.

4chan is not very privacy-friendly
they have a history of kowtowing to law enforcement and even famous actresses' management: they took down photos (and blocked re-posting of those photos) during the big leak* last year

you should make actual portable emf shields with five sides to enable maximum protection. if you use those origami algorithms you can make it foldable. that's something worth paying for.

>>55277441
but then you have to buy a 4chan pass unless its a very private vpn

He made a Faraday cage, senpai.

It can work depending on some factors.

Aluminum foil is used to increase dipole signal, because it is condcutive and catches the waves, but the waves cannot pass through. I.E. Faraday cage.

All he needs to do is ground the aluminum foil.
