Why does a WiFi adapter connected through OTG on an Android phone

Why does a WiFi adapter connected through OTG on an Android phone require a chrooted environment to run aircrack-ng and others? Is it not possible to just run it from the default terminal emulator?

I think you can attache a usb dongle to a kali VM runing on a linux host. Maybe a windows host too.
