So I currently own a 1155 core i5 3450.
Should I upgrade to the newest socket 1151 or better buy a core i7 1155 processor?
What are the benefits of newer processors? I only notice a small in creas in speed.
Don't upgrade, u already have 1155 cores and most games only use 1 or 2 :s

Upgrade to an i7 3770/2600, or 2600k/3770k if you really need an upgrade.
I7 3770 should be on par with an i5 6600 iirc, and i7 2600 between the i5 6400 and 6500
i have a pentium g3258 at 4.3 and its doing as well as my old 1100t six core.

That's because you're getting almost triple the ipc with a third as many cores

did you try overclocking it?
>>55259686
I can't it's not a K model, also I tried and it's not worth it I'd only gain at most .4 ghz of spped according to whay I read.

0.4ghz isn't worth it?
>>55259977
that puts you at like almost 4ghz doesnt it?
Thats gotta mean something if you use x264 or render stuff.

It'll be like 5-10% better than stock.
What's your motherboard? Multiplier Overclockable (Z77)? Stick with LGA1155.
Otherwise, make the jump.

so just like most normal overclocks?

Mobo is b75.

Yep
I'm glad this thread came up I just bought a custom PC that has an lga1155. And was wondering the exact same question I know I'm probably going to swap out the processor and upgrading the video card

Any particular reason you feel that you need to upgrade?
Just get an i7 if you can. A bit more expensive but it will give longetivity to your computer. The 4 hyper-threads will really help 5-10 years from now.

I feel the 3450 it's getting old. Also mobo it's giving me problems, I've had to reset bios 4 times this month only.

Another reason to upgrade is my question, does the newest processors bring something newer into the table? or just reduced energy consumption and higher speeds?
