Who else fell for the "an i5 is more than enough meme"?

I have this thing clocked at 4.5Ghz and if I'm playing for example GTA 5 and watching a 4k video on my second monitor i can notice a FPS loss in the game.

Wish I had never listened to you /g/
fugg you

Well, I'm still on my 3770k at 4.8, so i guess our cpus perform equally in games that can't use more than 4 threads

I upgraded from an fx6300. Depending on the title, you won't see much improvement in gaming. I think in cpu dependent games a 6700k will sometimes yield about 15-20fps more than an i5.

Good god I hope this OC is the BIOS auto OC feature. If not then you're bad at OCing or you got one of the worse chips. 4790K does 4.8Ghz on that on all cores with HT enabled.

Shouldn't the GPU decode the 4K video?

I'm sure you meant to reply to me. Its from having it set to adaptive voltage and it being overly aggressive.
I had cpuz stressing the cpu when I took the screenshot.

This. On Skylake anything past 4.6ghz usually sees more than 1.35v being used.

Should have gotten an athlon 880k and stronger gpu instead you dumb fuck.

Always prioritise gpu for 4k.
>>
>>55245351

For some reason, it doesn't.

I've tried enabling/disabling the option for hardware acceleration in chrome and firefox and still, it's all done by the CPU.

I don't have a fucking clue.
>>
>>55245497

Nevermind, it works fine with Firefox and even fucking Internet Explorer.

But not with Chrome, what the fuck is going on?

Why I can't use the hardware acceleration in youtube witch Chrome?
>>

chrome cucks you with vp9
which no gpu (except in phones?) will decode yet

what speed did you have the 6300 at? Mine manages 4.6 at 1.475v but trying to push 4.7 makes it crash
>>
>>55245186
This is true. I switched to a 3770K when I noticed Mass Effect 3 would lag when I convert a movie in the background. That never happened on my underclocked notebook i7s.
>>55245283
@1080p yes.
>>55245318
4K isn't really CPU dependant, I do it myself and won't utilize more than 30-40 % per core.

Youtube uses VP9 if your browser supports it, and Firefox has it disabled by default (media.mediasource.webm.enabled set to false). If you set it to true it will use VP9, which offers better quality and smaller filesize, but doesn't support GPU acceleration yet.
>>

>>
>>55245459

Few people on /g/ understand how cpus work for vidya. GTA V is a great example of how a game scales to only a few threads (4 in this case) but will still devour whatever hardware you can feed it.

Point is: At 4k just about every current desktop class cpu from both AMD and Intel are more than enough to keep up with any gpu at 4k. We would need gpus considerably faster than what is available for cpu to matter at 4k again.
>>
>>55245186

Dude, I got it clocked at 4,4 and the voltage doesn't got beyond 1.180

You pressed the OC genie button?

OC genie is shit mate. It put my 4690K 0.2 GHz down and 0.110 volts up.

my i5 has never been enough for 120hz at 4.5ghz for many years. It wasn't enough at 4.8ghz for PS2 emulation at the time either.
>>
>>55249986
How though, the CPU is 1.2V at stock voltage
>>
>>55250425

That's kinda high for an intel cpu, and even if it is 1.2v stock, you shouldn't be forced to add more than 0.1v.
>>
>>55250417

PCSX2 is a lot, lot better on the cpu side these days.

how long until I can simultaneously watch 4 films at 1.5x speed in 4k on a single PC?

Literally some piece of shit console port from Bethesda is the only thing where 2400mhz ddr3 matters.

Fuck off to /v/ you nincompoop
>>
>>55253521

The claim was ram speed makes little difference and evidence is presented showing it can make a large difference. Now this evidence is irrelevant because you dislike it? Fine, but it doesn't change the facts presented.

Now had the claim been single vs dual channel, then we would not be having this discussion. Single vs dual is irrelevant.
>>
>>55253563

>one example
>one game
>by Bethesda
>EVIDENCE

Basically, if you have an assumption (ddr3 speed above 1600mhz matters) and you want to prove it than you need to show consistent evidence, not just cherrypicked a shity unoptimized console port.

A: there is a difference between 1600mhz and 2400mhz
B: game gets more fps with 2400mhz
therefore 2400mhz is significantly better

Basically, Fallout 4 is probably the ONLY game out there to perform differently with ram above 1600mhz. And the graphics aren't even that good. And the whole game isn't even good, it's garbage.

Unless you run an APU that utilizes ram, you will see absolutely no difference between 1600mhz and 2400mhz most of the time.
