My Essence STX is dying and I need a replacement but don't know what to get. I'm out of warranty.
I could get the STX II but it's kind of expensive. Any alternatives that have this kind of quality but are a bit cheaper?
And it needs to work on Linux, not fancy but as good as the STX does (alsa mixer worked great).

> Soundcard
Tbqh familia you don't need one unless you are a sound engineer and if you are, your work will supply one for you
Motherboard SPDIF out and a good amp + speakers will do more than a soundcard ever could.

I have fairly expensive equipment and don't like the onboard shit to run it.

But I don't think you understand, unless you are actively using the card to add processing power to audio editing, there is no reason to have a soundcard, as it outputs at the same quality as modern onboard audio cards ( modern being anything in the last few years). If you really want to waste your money, just buy and external amplifier or something like that
get AIM SC808

t. sound engineer who does his processing on a microwave microcontroller.
Would you mind posting your source code. I'd like to see how you deal with a 1MHz clock when it takes a ton of instructions to get anything done with an 8 bit data bus and registers.
