So I'm building a new computer and have everything I need apart from the graphics card.
It's the one thing I'm stuck on getting.
I'm not sure on whether I should get a 1080, 2 480s or something else.
Any ideas?

If you have the money to spurge just get a 1080 it's the better one, though some people are going on about its ti version later.
>>
Do what you want. I would suggest 2 AMD 480's. But if you want a Gtx 1080, it's fine. But the AMD's would be cheaper and grant more performance.

Thanks for the advice.
Seeing as I live in Australia, the massive price on computer parts makes the cost pretty big.

Until there is concrete evidence & benchmarks that is a load of shyte.
Before you say they showed it on ashes. What they didnt show was the results in another part of the game where the 1080 was the better. It on their site.

I have a related question.
I'm building a gaming computer for my little brother since he's bedridden, but I'm broke as shit so I'm trying to keep my graphics card purchase under 150 bucks.

I got him this tower:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LX7LV02/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And I'm debating between these two graphics cards:
https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Display-Graphics-02G-P4-3757-KR/dp/B00J0ISHMQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466782383&sr=1-4&keywords=graphics+card
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-128-Bit-Graphics-GV-N420-2GI-REV3/dp/B012ZDI8ZS/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466782383&sr=1-5&keywords=graphics+card

Or another good one, if anyone has any recommendations? He really wants to play stuff like ARK, Fallout 4, and Overwatch, he's all over those popular youtuber and streamer games.

Would you mind giving me a link, Anon?

Don't fall for the Crossfire meme, trust me. A single card is always going to be superior. Purchase whatever is in your desired price range, or, if you really want to go Team Red, wait a while for AMD to release their higher-end cards. Keep in mind that the availability of 10xx cards is pretty terrible right now, so you might not really have much of a choice when it comes to waiting.
>>
>>55238298
wait a week and check the price for an rx 470. supposed to be 150$ and comes with the same performance as a gtx 970.
>>
>>55238502
I've heard nothing of this, but I've been out of country awhile, army bs. Can you give me more info on the rx 470, what site I might find it on, what it's supposed to be really good for, any issues people are expecting based on the company, etc?
>>
>>55237891
Don't get anything SLI/Crossfire no matter what else you do.
>>
>>55238208
>I would suggest a CF or SLI setup

And that's why we know you're an idiot
>>
>>55237891
Wait for the 1080 TI
>>
>>55237891
everybody else is wondering the same thing and we won't have any real answers until real benchmarks are posted from trusted 3rd parties. the 480 looks promising, but if you are looking for ultimate power, then you must wait until 1080 stocks come back and buy one of those. Crossfire is a gay meme, if you want ultimate power then you must buy the strongest singular graphics cards.

I laughed but it's true

Dual gpu setups never work as expected. Just in a few cherry picked benchmarks

This is wrong.

Yeah that's what I thought, have they shown dual 480's on anything but Ashes of the Homosexuality?
>>
Just get a single 480.
>>
Get the 1080 if you have the cash. 480 SLI is technically more powerful but very few games take advantage of it and it is hard to get working
>>
>>55239606
>480 SLI
not to mention performance issues in unsupported games and having to constantly disable one of your cards
>>
>>55237891
Get a Kyro 3. They'll be making a comeback and blow both Nvidia and AMD out of the water.
>>
>>55237891
buy a Ti-line card
>>
>>55240506
this, crossfire is unfortunately not a good investment.
>>
Wait for non reference designs to come out. If you have the money go with the 1080 since a lot of games have little to no multicard support
>>
>>55237891
Yo.
Will this shit be enough for a 1070 and 6600K if I want to OC both of em?

Fuck, forgot Link. be quiet! 500W straight 10.
>>
A single card is always better than two cheaper cards. Dual GPU scaling sucks and requires developer support.

That being said, what screen are you trying to drive? Unless you're trying to go 1440p+, an RX 480 will max everything out at 1080p easily. Even the lowest guesstimate has it above an R9 390X which already maxes 1080p.
>>
>>55238657
And that's how we know you're a meanie, anon.
>>
So what's with the inconsistencies with GPU temps? Yesterday I was running Witcher 3 maxed on my 1070 and it was hanging around 65 Celsius most of the time and today I've been playing and it's around 40-50

da fuc
>>
480 for 1080p
1070 for 1440p
1080 for 4K
>>
>>55238657
>>55238208
when crossfire/sli works its like magic, however i always advocate 1 powerful gpu just to avoid problems.

in this case, i would say get 1 480 and see if it has enough power for you to get by till nvidia and amd put out their bigger chips, as the current ones cant do 4k60 maxed.
>>
>>55242347
Would I wanted to **crush** 1080p (have a 144hz monitor) for the next several years? Would a 1070 be better than a 480 in that situation?
>>
Im in a very similar situation as OP.

I know I most likely wont get a 480 unless sopme bench marks come out that completely convince me. Chances are that card is going to be shit come this time next year, so thats the main reason I dont want one.

That leave my choices down to the 1070 or 1080. I could get a 1070 and sell it when the 1080ti comes out, but in all likelyhood the 1080ti will be $800-$900 for a 12% performance increase. I would like to get a 1440p, 144hz monitor, and SLI 1070s seem to benchmark better with 1440p than a single 1080, despite that the benchmarks Ive seen are also putting the 1080 above the SLI 1070s for 1080p.

>>55243876
Yes.
I have a 980 and is already starting to show some age, no surprise really this thing is almost two years old.
