I already own monitor audio BX2 but for fuck sake, for $150 I would have bought them immediately if they would ship to EU :(

usually they go for double that, around $150 for single speaker, not for pair

woah I've never seen what I would call bookshelf speakers that were powered and took 1/4" trs and xlr.

Is that a common feature on other products on that form factor?
I've been using a pair of JBL eon 10" powered pa speakers as piano keyboard speakers but they're honestly a bit too big for a personal practice studio type situation. I need to be able to sit within 4 feet of the speakers, and my current eon's dont sound that good if you're that close, so I put them on the floor, but the compression drivers go over my head and I dont hear the high end.

I'm thinking monitors this size would be perfect, I could perch them right at head level

pic related is my current setup. you cant see the whole speakers but obviously the placement is janky, because they're too large.

I dont want to sacrifice any more low end though, and I'm afraid I already am, with 10" drivers even.

piano, organ, and bass sounds mostly.
>>
>>55234941
dude those jbl's have 5" drivers, they aren't what you want

Do you have your audio interface connected to a hub or have a lot of other USB devices connected.

I had this problem and I solved it by adding another USB port card to the computer and used as dedicated for the Audio Interface.

If you are still using Firewire for whatever reasons I know that if it is not Texas Instruments chipset it can cause audio problems.

Just picked up a pair of Presonus E4.5s to replace my aging 2.1 set from 10 years ago.

I see a lot of people raising/angling their speakers - is it recommended to elevate speakers off the desk surface?
>>
>>55241592

It's recommended to isolate them from the resonant surface.

Best bang for the buck I've ever found have been The Fostex PM6-4-1's. I found them on sale for 300 a pair.
>>
>>55240989
I suggest you look at Yamaha HS series. I have always liked the sound of them, especially for the price.

You can get the HS5 for $199 each new.
(I know it is a bit over your price range)

I haven't used the Focals and JBLs in that price range.

Only other advice I can give is stay away from M-Audio, Behringer, and KRK

They sound amazing for music with a Pioneer VSX-21 driving them, but I have to change the mode to EXT Stereo for best results. Really love the recessed horn tweeter sound.

They're not the best ever, but for ~300ish dollars they are the best. One hell of an upgrade from my $35 logitech set.

My AVR rejects a lot of noise just being connected to the computer(soundcard/USB dac), my pro amp however requires a ground loop isolator otherwise I hear noise from say.. scrolling a web page. Even if I use the AVR preouts to the pro amp the noise would persist.
>>
>>55247046
Just to be clear, you mean AVR as in audio video receiver right?

I would never output to a receiver that doesn't have optical S/PDIF input. With digital inputs (especially optical) there is no risk of interference in the input.
>>

I like em but I spent $100 and a hour drive to get them. Don't think they're the best sounding things in the world but they are nice for older music and pretty decent in general. I advise people to stay away from M-Audio because of build quality of their gear.

They use cheap plastic parts whenever and wherever they can to cut costs.
At three years, your AV40s have survived longer than many other peoples' have.

As for the sound, they are not bad (Especially for the price). Live instruments, vocals in a higher register sound decent. But working with bassier instruments, vocals... low end synths bass patches sound atrocious
(likely due to M-Audio not including "Bass Boost" in this model to cut cost)

But at the end of the day they fall into the category of "cheapest" so great sound is not to be expected.

However they are notorious for having shitty quality and breaking after a year. Which is why I steer people away from M-Audio gear.

Nice setup man! I've got a pair of Diamond 220s hooked up to a Marantz NR1504 and they sound absolutely sublime for the size/price. They look neat and because the bass reflex is on the plinth you can mount them right up against the wall and they still sound good!

The sub or the higher end speakers? The sub will definitely be the cheaper and more doable option.

As for more upscale models, if waveguide style, Genelec and Neumann(Klein+Hummel), as well as the higher end JBL models. Not remotely within the price range of the LSR308.

My room is too small for these JBLs unfortunately. Also my desk.

I think Micca MB42X will suit my needs better.
