Anon using Raspberry Pi 2 as his Desktop PC reporting in. Ask me anything.
>>
is this all you could think of to do with your little computer that you bought for "projects"?
>>
>>55231003
Czemu Chromium?
>>
>>55231014
I plugged in smaller display and use RPI2 to conserve energy. I don't need to use my normal desktop PC to watch youtube streams, code in python, listen to music, read PDF files and create documents. With my smaller monitor I'm using 22 W of power instead of 80W.
>>
>>55231026
I have Firefox, but video streams are fucked up in current Firefox-EST version. For normal operations I use Firefox or Minimal-kiosk-browser, but for youtube live streams I have to use Chromium for now.
>>
>>55231071
Also, flash content works faster in Chromium, even though both FF and Chromium use the same version of peppermint flash. Chromium uses more memory than firefox and loads pages slower, by the way. It is probably caused by the lack of NoScript in Chromium. What should I use in Chromium if I want to block javascript on websites?
>>
>>55231071
Why don't just use firefox and openwith with mpv/youtube-dl, or you using anything flash-related outside of video streams?
>>
>>55231003
how do you deal with the speed? It's pretty horrendous and you'd be much better off with a <$150 chromebook.
>>
>>55231261
I can open normal videos even with omxplayergui.
The problem is LIVE youtube video streaming.
>>
>>55231283
Bull shit. Learn to optimize Gnu/Linux.
For normal tasks it's more than fast enough. We are talking about RPI2 with SSD and overclocked to 1100 MHz.
>>
>>55231003
Cool, but not super special, I daily drive way worse.

How does it handle JavaScript? Any noticable delays with things like the animated captcha?

> The problem is LIVE youtube video streaming.
Never had any problem with youtube-dl extracting links from live videos, guessing it's something related to omxplayergui only.

Are you using fresh youtube-dl version by the way?

I use my raspberry pi 2 in a piratebox to spread my chinese cartoon porn to random people near a starbucks
>>
>>55231353
Wait a second I will record a screencast.

>>55231359
LIVE transmission on youtube uses DASH. Youtube-dl can't fetch that kind of live data. It will download video up to a certain point only and ignore new data. Other live streams? Sure, but not youtube live.

>>55231342
oh wait,
>raspberry pi 2
I have a 1 and it's pretty terribad to use as a desktop computer.

Can you give any examples of such streams? I've used mpv/youtube-dl for some youtube live streams, and it works fine, buffer wasn't empty all the time.
Also, youtube-dl don't download video if you are using it just for link extracting (-g), as omxplayergui probably does, so all the downloading are handled by player itself.

Welp, you were right! After updating yt-dl it works.
Obviously you can't see the hw-accelerated video on normal screenshoot. I had a script to make screenshots of fb image, but I've lost it somewhere.
>>
>>55231580
Glad you got it working.

Can't find anything sane to record a gif screencast, so fuck it. Byzanz works like shit and produces corrupted files.

By the way, I've just set up x11VNC server on my RPI, so that I can change youtube streams without getting up from my bed. I have a really long headphone cable.

Fun fact. Firefox doesn't touch SWAP. Chromium eats it like crazy. Chromium goes to trash as I don't want it to destroy my SSD too soon.

ffcast + covert will do just fine. ffmpeg will also be fine, even without helper like ffcast.

convert of course, time to sleep.

Forced byzanz to work.
Streaming video with yt-dl seems to slow down Firefox. Probably because of high video quality of stream. Welp, here is my pathetic video.

>>55231876
Not joking
>>
>>55232023
1080p works fine as wine if you use video player with Hardware acceleration enabled.
Omxplayer is one of them. You can also compile VLC with HW acceleration option enabled.

I'm going to get some sleep now. See you later.
