I fell for the white label HDD meme and now it's failing on me, Don't even want to bother returning it even though it's under warranty, Think i might fall for the SSD meme since so many people seem to like them.

What SSD should i get? Don't really want to spend more than $60 and don't need anything bigger than 250GB.
>>
>>55212675
Oh and it's going in laptop so 2.5 inch.
>>
>>55212675
Maybe a OCZ Trion? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/rwcMnQ/ocz-internal-hard-drive-trn15025sat3240g this is the only sauce i have on it, but I don't know if it'll fit in a laptop.
>>
Sandisk Ultra II 250GB
Spend the extra money. Bigger drives are faster.
>>
>>55212727
That looks good, Not familiar with OCZ though
>>
>>55212777
I'd defiantly look into it and see if its compatible. I'm not too familiar with them either so I'm not going to full on recommend it so do some research on it.
>>
>>55212832
it's 2.5 inch so yea it should fit.
>>
Prepare to get memed
>>
I heard the Adata SP550 is a good extreme budget option. Though don't take my word for it.
>>
Adata or KingDian, whatever is cheaper where you live
>>

Checking to see if something's compatible is the most defiant thing you can do anon

It failed a day after i installed it.

I tested it with drive sentinel and it said it was half dead "fair" and had a lot of bad sectors.

Now it gets hot and its making a consistent grinding noise...

I thought i could save a few shekels buying white label but i made a mistake. Now i have to buy Another drive.

Kingston SSDnow UV400 240gb

OP, this thread is fucking bullshit and totally a lie.

Thank you.
>>
>>55213445
I have a flash drive made by them and its been abused for years. Probaly reformatted 100 times. Used as live usb media. Etc

Still going strong. Kingston is ok in my book.
>>
>>55212736
This or the Sandisk SSD Plus version
>>
>>55212675
If you are going to go the poorfag route, I would look for lower end Sandisk drives. They arent the fastest now, but you get them for dirt cheap.

I bought a 120gb Sandisk Plus for 30$ when they went on sale. Browse slickdeals for a few weeks and youll see them pop up.
>>
I thought the go to was the Evo 850? Even if it's a bit extra
>>
>>55213509
This. However they are $41.29 at amazon.

>>
>>55213509
I have one they are great for how cheap they are.
>>
>>55213542
30$ was a smoking deal, 40$ is still a very very reasonable price when you need the drive now.

Send it back, you retard.

What are you going to do if you buy an SSD and it's DOA?

Its a white label dude. They will just send me another shitty white label rinse and repeat.

If i buy an ssd from new egg ill buy the replacement plan so im not worried.
>>
>>55213681
>They will just send me another shitty white label rinse and repeat.

Yeah?
And you already paid for it. Keep doing it until an acceptable drive comes back.

Doesnt mean you cant buy an SSD too, then use the white label on something else
>>
>>55213790
I still have to pay to ship it to them so even sending it back will cost me money i could be putting towards a shiny new ssd.

Tbh, sempai, i went through crucial m500, Kingstons/sandisk, king spec 64gb, ocr, Samsung, used intel (from 2009), and finally a zotac 120gb.

I used to think that Samsung was the only option, because the superior performance is worth the $25 premium on a 120gb drive... but this zotac has been pretty wonderful. Running CentOS on a x200 with the zotac (previously running the used intel) and the performance is very solid. The x200 throttled read/write with sataII speed, but there is no screen flicker and it is very responsive. If you are going to do a lot of r/w, go samsung.

Oh, btw, get 120gb and then a 64gb microsd; make the /home partition a similar size to the 64gb sd, and then???? Profit
>>
>>55212675
If you're on a budget, there's three words you'll need:
Sandisk SSD Plus
>>
>>55213350
please excuse my shitty spelling.

You're retarded.

anon, would you mind elaborating on the reasoning behind this exactly? I has the dumb.

in my T420

111GB OCZ-ARC100 (SSD)
223GB ADATA SP550 (SSD)

No issues work fine.
>>
>>55212832
>>55212727
>>55212777
From what I know TOshiba is killing OCZ now for good.
So I did recommend to stay away from them.
>>
>>55214485
Just so you know, I'm not some wizard or anything like that. I like to be able to back up all of my stuff on the fly, super easy. Let's say i have all of my files saved to my sd card, but i need an sd card to put in another device for whatever reason, i can back it all up to my /home partition.

CentOS downloads to /home. I might want Debian or gentoo, so i have 20-30gb left on my drive for those distros. If i dual boot two distros, they can share the /home partition. That's pretty much it. I do everything on a budget, so this is not the "best way," just the best way i know how to optimize my 64gb sd and 120gb with 2 Linux distros and a /home partition

Please other based God anons, tell me if I'm missing something
>>
>>55215196
See
>>55215579

Furthermore, i would rather spend the $15 premium for a Samsung on an extra sd or USB drive

Hey, thanks for telling me that I can share one home partition with several distros. I never thought of that myself.
