So I just had a fascinating experience.

>Go to friend's house
>He has an old custom built computer
>Need to move a file from my laptop so I grab a flash drive
>Doesn't work
>Huh, try another flash drive
>Doesn't work
>Try an external hard drive
>Doesn't work
>...starting to dawn on me
>Oh shit

And that's how I found out his front panel USB ports were wired backwards with the +5V pin connected to ground.
