Who else fell for the netbook meme?
>>
>>55211131
Ever tried to write code, or hell, anything longer than a paragraph on a 7" EEE PC? It's hell. and the 800x480 screen made me not even bother with X most of the time. And when i did need it i had a hot key to switch to 1024x768 virtual resolution and panned around so i wouldn't have issues with half my windows being too small/cut off on the bottom.

I would have felt ripped off if i had paid more than $15 for it.
>>
OP is that network manager? Network manager is fucking SHIT for me on Arch linux

Very often the connection will stop and webpages will not load despite it being connected. Just annoying stuff like that.

There's nothing wrong with xfce. It's nice and lightweight and just works.

All my code conforms to 80 character width, so this isn't a problem for me.
>>
just plug in an external screen.
Use the 7" for viewing the output.
And avoid certain kde applications which requires 1080p to fit on the scren.

My government fell for the netbook meme and gaveaway one to each student of my age/grade, actually.
It was pretty based tho because it had dual boot Ubuntu / XP, which is nice, if you think about it, for toddlers
>>
>>55211514
It wasn't an issue of screen, it was an issue of keyboard size.
>>
>>55211343
Do you mean nm-applet? I have been using both without issue for ages. Only once did I have to downgrade nm-applet due openvpn issues, but they were quickly sorted in an update.

Bought this netbook about 2 years ago, and it was complete shit full of bloatware and had the loudest hard drive I've ever heard. Added an SSD and upped the ram to 4GB, stripped out a few unneeded processes and it's pretty decent now. Runs a little hot, but not enough to get the fans going.

Since I usually only do writing on it, the cpu caps at 600mhz when on battery, which is plenty for typing and light browsing in Dillo.

pretty comfy.
>>
>>55211748
Why not install a less bloated OS like Linux
>>
>>55211818
Tried multiple times, never found it to be usable on this machine. Stupid problems like suspend not working correctly, programs freezing for no good reason, slightly lower battery life. Little issues, but enough to turn me away for the moment. I'll try it again in a few years, see if it's improved.

I'm not having any issues with this setup, it suits my needs, everything is nice and quick, no random ui lag and it resumes from suspend almost instantly.

This is probably such a retarded question but how did you make your taskbar show the name of the applications?

yeah I know, I set it to do that on purpose. Any higher and it needs to use the fans to cool down, I figured taking a performance hit would be worth it for almost double battery.

A couple still exist, but most are tablet hybrids.

>>
>>55211354
Dude that ain't the same. First netbooks were overpromised so badly that had a lot of people going out and buying one, only to be dissapointed with no more than 4 hour battery life if you were lucky. Most netbooks were so poorly made and hard to upgrade, you couldn't even play old games in them without slowing the thing down. On the other hand I seen someone with a HP Stream 11, the entire thing has shit tier quality worse than netbook, but god tier battery life over 8 hours in a 1.5lb package, and acceptable performance. still to damn expensive, you can just buy a x220 and a expanded battery for the same moneys.

Pic related.

Used it for uni some yesteryears, lasted me a while, sold it to a mechanic that was a bit computer illiterate, gave him instructions on how to operate an take care of it, went to car service a couple of months ago and fucking computer is still rocking the same W7 installation I left it with.

The guy actually listened and took good care of it. He says he likes it more than smartphone.

Take into account that I live in 3rd world.

I have a nice compaq mini running debian, it's pretty comfy and light so I use it when I travel, if this thread is still up later i'll post a pic or two
>>
>>55219586
I don't really count anything over 10" a netbook. My laptop's 12" so anything larger would be completely pointless.

>>55224097
64-bit processing. It's not just to address more RAM, you know.
>>
>>55211131
I have a netbook that's a file server/seed box/TeamSpeak/print server and it's pretty neat.
>>
>>55211131
Years ago I did. Turns out I'm too clumsy for any type of laptops. Broke 2/3 of the screen. Now my netbook is serving as NAS box.
