>natural scrolling

Swipe down - goes up
Swipe up - goes down

>natural
>>
Tb h lad after using OSX for a while it does feel more natural
>>
my logitech keyboard with built in trackpad for when i'm in my sofa has this too, and i prefer it to the other way around

like turning a wheel. The wheel of despair that Tim Cucks keeps downstairs at Apple.
>>
>>55207973
Are you retarded?
>>
>>55207973
swipe left - goes right
Swipe right - goes left

It's like that.
>>
It is more natural if your analogy is moving physical surfaces. When you swipe down you are moving the information up, and vice versa.
>>
>scrolling
>scroll
You turn the scroll the opposite direction you whish to move the page. Its been this way for thousands of years, Apple are just faggots.
>>

Fuck off underage.

The potato is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade Solanum tuberosum L. The word "potato" may refer either to the plant itself or to the edible tuber.[2] In the Andes, where the species is indigenous, there are some other closely related cultivated potato species. Potatoes were introduced outside the Andes region approximately four centuries ago,[3] and have since become an integral part of much of the world's food supply

Homosexuality in a nutshell.
>>
>>55207973
I agree it's not natural and I change it, but it's a direct analogue of how your mouse wheel rotates over its sensor.
>>
>>55208025
A long day of shitposting, eh pissphone?
>>
>>55208018
This was the real killer for me. If people want to complain, say it's the same as moving your viewspace or camera around.

On a touchscreen it can make sense for the natural method, but touchpads and mice smooth scrolling it's just not right.
>>
>>55207973
Kys
It actually models the way you would push a page if it was there in front of you. It's like complaining that swiping up on your phone actually scrolls the page down.
>>
>>55208278
KYS.
Take a piece of paper and put it on a table. Now move it down, it goes down. You fucking dumb shit SJW.
>>
>>55208312
>>55208278

Fucking roasted
>>
>>55208312
in order to see whats at the bottom of the piece of paper, if it were a really long piece of paper, you'd have to move it up.
>>
>>55208278
are you fucking retarded? open a fucking book and put two fingers on a page. Move down the fingers. Does it go up or down?
>>
>>55208312
If you push the paper down, you'll be seeing the content at the top of the page
>>
>>55207973
Both solutions are inferior to Page up/Page down keys.
>>
>>55208312
>>55208336
>>55208362
Which way do you push a piece of paper if you wanted to see content further down the page?
>>
Try swiping a piece of paper IRL, idiot.
Notice how the text moves.
>>
>>55207973
you can flip this from down/up in the trackpad settings

OP is an idiot, you all took the bait
>>
>>55208312
Yes the paper goes down but content that your eyes see goes up.
>>
>>55207973
>swipe up
>content moves up
>swipe down
>content moves down
It's like you're moving the content instead of moving the scrollbar, much more natural.
>>
>>55208386
I don't. I position the paper in such a way that I can see the whole of the page. The only adjustment that might be required is glancing down.

Do problem glasses obstruct vision so heavily that Mac users have to physically move their reading materials in order to see them?
>>
>>55207973
It actually is better, and if you don't like it you can swap it anyway.

Not an argument.
>>
I use both on a daily basis. Desktop scrolls as you expect and laptop is "natural". It has no impact after the first hour.
>>
>>55208386
Oh fuck. OP here guys, this guy knows what he is talking about. This makes sense.

Close the thread mods,
>>
>>55208386
It's the opposite if you position a wheel on the paper
>>
>>55208688
But you're not using a wheel, you're using a trackpad.

Why are you telling me? I completely agree.
>>
>>55207973
It's been like that though since windows vista, my old laptop with elan and synaptic were like that on default
>>
>>55207973
Put your hand on a piece of paper and swipe it down retard
the paper goes down but what you're reading goes up
>>
>>55207973
middle mouse scroll
>scroll up, page goes up
>scroll down, page goes down

thats the natural you fuck
>>
Whenever OSX went to "natural" scrolling it was weird for like 30 minutes and then totally naturally. Only problem is anything with old style scrolling feels backwards.

p.s. I still play all video games with Nintendo/flgiht-stick style reverse controls.
>>
How fucking hard is it to change the fucking setting if you don't like it? You can flip the direction on OS X, Windows and on every single Linux window manager....

Jesus Christ, /g/, it's like none of you know anything about computers at all
>>
>>55209600
Pretty sure OP wasn't complaining about which is default but more about the naming of the two. He (wrongfully) thought the commonly used way should be named natural because that was the one he was used to.
>>
>>55207973
If you swipe down on a paper sheet, where does the text go? Up you fucking retard.
>>
>>55209620
>more about the naming of the two.
Who cares about naming?

I don't go on an autistic rant because dialogues in Windows are called "windows"
>>
>>55208528
Nice job moving the goalposts.

OP

>>55209643
the text doesn't go anywhere retard, the paper moves down when i swipe down!

It makes more sense with a touch screen because in a sense you're much more "directly" manipulating the screen contents

But when its on a trackpad divorced from that it just feels very odd
>>
>>55209884
>But when its on a trackpad divorced from that it just feels very odd
It's literally 100% a matter of getting used to and it takes really just a day or so. There's no way to say one is better than the other, there's no discussion.
>>
>>55209924
How is something that requires "getting used to" in any way natural?
the first thing my "natural" mind would think is "I move down = it moves down"
>>
>>55208312
/thread
>>
>>55208005
In both cases you have to get used to it depending where you are coming from. But it does feels more natural that way.
>>
>>55209984
Because you're used to the unnatural way, so the natural way seems unnatural.
>>
>>55210099
Here's a good analogy:
Natural scrolling is moving the content.
Normal scrolling(e.g. mouse wheel) is moving the viewfinder of the content.

For me it's the latter that comes first to mind.
>>
>>55208278
HOLY SHIT
It actually feels a lot better. It all makes sense now.

Im a natural now. Everyone else is plebs
>>
>>55209984
Scrolling is not really anything that people do instinctively, as evolution has not set us up for it. They try and adjust the way they use it by the response they get. Once you are used to one way, it takes a little effort to get used to the other way. There's absolutely no reason to prefer one over the other. Whether it makes sense to call one "natural" and the other not, I don't know, I don't care. I don't need to feel offended by every little thing my least favorite company does, I just don't give a fuck. They could call it "Objectively better way" and I wouldn't care.
>>
>>55207973
It works the same way touch screens do it.
The idea is that you're pulling the web page down or the web page up.
Think of it as having a physical sheet of paper and doing the same thing.
>>
>>55208018
>Stick up plane goes down
>Stick down plane goes up

Think like the plane's on the other end of th stick with the fulcrim between you and it, push stick forward plane points down, pull it back and plane points up

There are some faggs who even invert the mouse Y axis when playing FPS.
>>
>>55207973
If you have a piece of paper on a table in front of you and push it away from you (up), the lower end of the page is more and more in your field of view. That said, I use up is up and down is down for all digital media. Dunno why.
