Was it easy?
Did you break shit?
What temperature improvements did you get?
Is it a meme?

I tried to delid an old 775 chip for practice before I delidded my 3570k, but that didn't end well. From what I heard, it is most definitely NOT a meme.

Thinking about delidding my 6700k (getting Temps over 80 at times even with watercooling)
I have an old q9550 and an i7 950 to practice, but still think about selling at least the i7

can't really practice delidding on a Core i7 or core 2. If i remember correctly they have IHS soldered on with fluxless solder. Just try the vice method or since you seem to have money, just buy the delidding tool

What's your setup and voltage? You can always send it off, or buy a tool that's made for that.

Gigabyte z170 gaming g5 + 6700k @4.6 ghz
Watercooled together with a 970 (overclocked too)
1x 140 Rad, 1x 280 Rad
The cooling was expensive and not delidding seems like a cheap and effective way to get much better temps.
I'll try with a razor, but only when I can afford replacing the cpu. (sounds stupid, instead of buying the tool but I have very steady and careful hands and it will give me a much greater feel of accomplishment).

The Mainboard is not a recommendation btw. The fan controls suck and speedfan doesn't work (yet). Currently coding my own solution, but it isn't too easy

I've heard the vice method works much better than the blade method. Ever consider going down to 4.5 with reduced voltage? I'm on 1.34/4.6 6600k and it's stable until I hit it with p95. I have a low pro noctua cooler, not water tho. P95 is not a real world scenario, you will almost never ever encounter a program that dumps heat to the CPU than p95. I think you can mail off your chip for $25 they will delid it for you. Delid will get you 6-8c max.

All aftermarket cooling is a meme. The real advantage is noise reduction, because even the stock fan will keep shit cool enough to run.

Fuck off nigger. Your post is a meme.

I think the temperature drop heavily depends on the actual cooling solution. Especially watercooling can transport heat away much faster, so I'm expecting a larger temperature drop than this (even though 8 degrees would still be worth it)
I don't have a vice and it does look so much more dangerous. The cpu could fall to the floor, it may scrape the die, hitting not perfectly evenly can do damage and the pcb is actually a lot thinner in the 6700k than whatever was used in the guide for the vice. In the end, both are dangerous and with the razor I have much more control.
I'm at 3.8V rock stable. I often have large loads on the cpu (3d rendering etc)

sorry I meant 1.38V.
Also I'd rather go up to 4.7 instead of down to 4.5
