there's no reason to get malware, their app ecosystem is be limited, it's not like you need a scanner in there
>>
Whats the point? All I do when I go to my fridge is open it to get what I want and walk away. Sometimes you touch the temperature thing? I think maybe I've touched it 2 or 3 times over the past who knows how many fridges I've used in my life.

That doesn't really matter. "Smart" TVs are notorious for being turned into silent bots even if the owner never installs anything. It just needs to be connected to the internet.

Appliance manufacturers don't give two fucks about security.

I saw one of these at a hardware store.
It didnt have a web browser, though.
>>
>>55201132
Yeah, the fridge is a device that doesn't benefit from any kind of "smart" behavior unless it's really fucking smart (like if it could sense that stuff was spoiling or getting freezerburnt or something). A fridge from 1945 would be almost identically useful to a fridge from 2016. Only real difference is power consumption and frills like ice/water dispensers.

I've always thought it would be a great idea to have cameras in the fridge, take a photo of all the contents everytime the door closes, with a display on the outside so you can see whats inside the fridge and where its located without opening the doors and searching for it.

although I hardly think you'd need android os to do something that simple

Just google "smart tv malware". Tons of relevant results.

look guys i'm not advocating internet connected android refridgerators.

I just always thought it would be a great idea to be able to see whats in the fridge without actually opening it and flooding it with warm air. lots of people spend whole minutes at a time standing staring at an open fridge. it seems like you could design a cctv system for a fridge, or just a simple cam array and a display for stills that were taken once the doors were closed

it wouldn't have to be internet connected but it seems like the obvious next step. that way you can see whats in the fridge remotely, while sitting on the couch just out of reach of the fridge, or while at the store or something.

Unless you paid cash, they already knew.
>>
>>55201132

I think its cool. While you prepare your breakfast in the morning you can see the weather, news, stocks, mail, etc. Right in your kitchen.

To be honest though I'd prefer some sort of HomeAI where every room you can access it from. Kinda like the personal assistant from Iron-Man.

so many companies have tried a kitchen "smart hub" piece of shit and none of them have taken off
>>
>>55201345
I like this idea but I would want my personal device (smartphone in this case) to recognize that I'm in a room. or maybe the other way around, the room recognize I'm in it by my personal device, and maybe my own personal AI assistant that I'm used to speaking with on my personal device would patch through to the rooms interfaces and it would be a seamless transition from device to device using the same AI
>>
>>55201391
not OP but while iOS needs a solid, open alternative, Android is not that. Open maybe if you go pure ASOP and never touch Google crap but it's still a mess of an OS. It's an embarrassment compared to GNU/Linux on the desktop despite having had years to get its shit together.

Nah, for people like me, the refrigerator is always stuffed 24/7. You wouldn't be able to see anything but the nearest container of leftovers which would be squashed tightly against the camera.

calm down, this product wasn't made by apple. I am sure you will find the fridge works independent of the os.
