Been waiting a long time for this thread

Any input on Epicure speakers for refoaming/rebuilding into an entry level setup?

I've been looking at the 200C and 110s for a bit, but I'm not sure they're worth

ELAC B5 + Some pioneer sub that came with this amp - powered by Pioneer SX-316

I want to upgrade to a smaller amp though, something with RCA Analog and Toslink Digital inputs and Discrete Sub. But only 2.1...

>How do you like them
Love em, holy shit do i love em, only gripe is my Amp's crossover kinda sucks, like i have to turn bass down all the way for the ELACs not to sound like Mud

I'm thinking of getting some vintage bookshelf speakers for my vintage receiver. Does anyone have experience with realistic minimus 7 speakers? I've heard that they are a great value for the price that they normally go for ($15-30), and I heard that they're are some mods that make them sound better.
>>
can't be a true audiophile without having an external dac
show off your external dac / dac+amp

The frequency range they support sounds good for the price, but they have zero bass. They need a real sub unless you listen to flute music.

Technics turntable, Pioneer tuner, McIntosh preamp, Kinergetics CD player, Nakamichi tape deck, Rotel power amp.

The big old speakers were Polks, the new black ones are ADS, and the wood ones are KEF.
>>
>>55201131
Nice. How much did you get the CD player for?

Only used stuff I can find is at an audio store and it still costs a shit ton.
>>
>>55201248
>Nice. How much did you get the CD player for?

$100. Audio stores are always overpriced unless it's all refurbished. Try audio message boards and Craigslist. I've had a lot of luck at yard sales too.

I'm not impressed with it. Its build quality is basically Adcom level, and not like other gear in its original price range. Most buyers of McIntosh gear these days are deluded rich people, like Harley owners.

I have an Acurus preamp that I'm probably gonna swap out for it.

I have a Yamaha amp from 1987 that barely puts out any output on full volume, whether from speaker wires or headphone jack. Before I go trying to learn electronics repair, are the most likely causes for this problem worth the cost in time and money to fix for some likely shitty amp? Would I be better off buying something new instead?

If it's the headphone jack all you have to do is open it up, remove the part and then just replace it with a new one, just pay attention to what cables go to which pins so that everything is grounded and Left and Right audio actually remain left and right.
Taking the five minutes to learn how to solder is probably one of the best things to learn, electronic repair knowledge, regarless of how basic, is super handy and saves you money in the long run.
Go to a harbor freight or something and just buy the cheapo soldering iron and solder for like 8 bucks together.

Honestly, having used the Utopia Minis for awhile, I fully advocate a speaker in that price range. Though the Diablos are excellent for what they do, if you're a lonely NEET with few parties in your house, I'd advocate not throwing down that kind of cash.
>>
>>55200802
KEF for sure. Why would you sacrifice all of that fidelity for what essentially will sound like a tin can compared to your previous experience?

>>
>>55205958
Hmm, those mid drivers are b110 like in ls3/5a's arent' they? Polypropylene with a nasty breakup spike they used to solve with a notch in the filter and not very 'high definition', much heavier than today's materials too.
>>
>>55205958
Those ADS speakers should be equal to the KEFs in every way. They're worth about as much. Just a matter of personal preference.

>>55205971
Adcom/Rotel/NAD etc are good brands but they not TOP AUDIOPHILE HOLY SHIT MY CHECKBOOK brands. Other brands in the McIntosh price range are just built better.

/g/ please help. I want to connect 4 speakers to an amplifier, but I don't know what should I get to do this. I've been searching for information and it gets more confuse. the ohms, the watts, connect on serie or paralel..

the four speakers are 6 ohm and 100w. I been looking at the best way to wire them seems to be on serie-paralel. should I get an ampli over or under 6 ohms?
>>
>>55206134

Are you doing a stereo setup? Four speakers total, but with two left side and two right side?

Many transistor amplifiers are good down to 4 ohms per channel, but if you connect two sets of 6 ohmers in parallel that would be 3 ohms per channel and potentially unsafe.

If you're doing a stereo setup and only two speakers per channel, you can't possibly hook them up as series-parallel. To be safe, you can hook them up in series and you'll end up with 12 ohms per channel, which should be safe for any transistor amp, but you will lose a bit of power output.

I found this.
yes, I want to put two left and two right speakers. I know nothing about electricity and electronics, I think it would be easier. the more I read the more confuse I get.

>>
>>55204498
Lowered sensitivity and limited bandwidth of your hearing won't immediately make high fidelity sound reproduction obsolete. Everyone has some hearing loss, it's just a matter of how much. 90 yo war vet is probably deaf enough not to care but I've seen people here complain about their hearing loss over 16 KHz which is absolutely nothing in practice.

For my car I use JBL GX600C and CS1214. I used a cheap but good board based on TAS5630, but it needs 48V instead of 12V from the battery, so it needed a separate dc/dc converter. I used 4 dc/dc converters now and they are all shit, so does anyone have a good idea what amplifier to use for this application?
