I wanna buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. Is it as good as it seems for the price? Any Anon owning it would like to share his or her thoughts?

Also is it normal for chinkphones to have 1 year warranty? Is it something I should be wary of?
>>
>>55187583
It's considered to be the best bang for the buck currently, but make sure to check if it's carrier compatible in your country. it lacks most American bands and lacks LTE 20 which is widely used in Europe.

As for warranty, that's pretty standard. if it breaks, you'll have to pay to send it back to China as well so keep that in mind.

It's for the VR meme.
>>
>>55188536
but muh VR.
phone hardware and software have almost plateaued. VR's an easy way to have meaningful product differentiation now.
>>
Since Xperia X is a meme, should I just wait a while longer?
>>
>>55187583
It's actually a damn nice phone for the price. Make sure to buy the 32gb version since it has more ram though. The only thing that's pissing me off about it is MIUI, but I'm looking forward to flash cyanogenmod or resurrection remix some day.
>>
>>55187573
>>55187779
Anandtech reviewed it. They compared the screen to ones from 2010, battery life is pretty good though.

Still a good buy IMHO if you don't care too much about displays.

>inb4 "you should wait for the ZTE Axon meme"
>>
>>55188551
>>55188556
But what about the battery life non-meme? Can they even match the s7 edge's current life if they upgrade it that far? I don't know much about batterys but I feel like it would probably end up worse.

Seems like a big hit to take for some gimmicky tech like VR.
4k itself is basically a meme, I say this as someone who is typing onto a 4k monitor right now. There is almost no content outside of gaming. And there seems to be diminishing returns around this point as the pixels become harder to discern anyway unless you have a large monitor. If I went one setting lower on my monitor(I'm not going to do it) the difference iirc isn't even that shocking, not like the leap from 1080p back down to 720p. I run some games in lower resolution because my PC can't handle it and honestly if it's still past 2k I might forget.

I have an s7 edge and most people don't even know but it runs games in 1080p. I bet most owners don't even know that because chances are you won't notice unless you are told, because it basically looks the fucking same on the tiny screen, you can't discern the pixels anyway. What a fucking pointless waste of power to put 4k on a phone unless I am wrong about something.

>>
>>55188890
They probably will down scale everything that isn't vr or 4k video.
>>
>>55188890
they could just take the same approach as sony did with their 4k smartphone and upscale everything except video and vr content.
>>
>>55188944
also, i might be wrong about this, but you could potentially upscale a 1440 render to a 4k display and potentially get better results as screen door effect would be mitigated by pixel density. i might be wrong about that tho. native 4k would be really hard.

Galaxy S7 fits 2 of those. It's a fragile little bitch though and you will need a case if you tend to drop things.
>>

Phones come out too fast. Just buy one if you want/need one. Even if you buy one at the best possible time it's only like a year at most before it's out of date again.

>>
>>55189242
My friend has had an htc one m7 for 3 years now, he doesn't have a case and he drops it very often, once even flew 50 m downstairs. All he has is one, almost unnoticable crack on his screen and the body has all kinds of scratches and little dents, but it works pretty good still. I mean that kind of durable.
>>
>>55189326
i'd say he's just very lucky with the angle of his drops honestly.

case in point, my brother and sister both had galaxy s3's. my sister dropped hers almost every few days and it survived over 3 years of that without the screen cracking - she dropped it a good 8ft on to some train tracks once.

my brother dropped his phone once on asphalt from about chest height and the screen shattered.
>>
>>55189326
No such thing on flasgships today. they are all fragile as fuck. just get a case and tempered glass screen protectors. don't be autismo.

If you want a device that will last for years without tinkering, get a iPhone SE.

It got the same specs as the current flagship iphone 6s, but with the shell of a iphone 5 and a smaller resolution. So there shouldn't be a problem with future iOS updates.

Android is for those who want to customize and tweak their phone to their own preferences, if you don't give a shit about those kind of things just go with a iPhone that "just run apps" and do everything else automatically.

Price: ~250, hard max at 300 USD

I have a nexus 5 for 2 years and 7 months now
>still works perfectly fine
>no cracks (never had a case)

wanted to buy the new nexus 5x because i cant plug it in properly into the charger; it says "slow charging"
also couldn´t plug it to the computer because the connection was never stable (i used dropbox to back everything to my computer)

would only cost about 280 euro (314$)
bought the nexus 5 when it was new for 400 euro (450$)
any thoughts? a new smartphone would be nice and i dont care about having the newest quality

any experiences with the 5X
>>
>>55195540
None that i know off.
>>
>>55195754
The Nexus 5x is a downgrade from the 5 in terms of hardware. Well, obviously it's probably a little faster. But I don't see it hanging around for as long as your 5 did. Do you know if the port is soldered onto the mobo? Sometimes they're just connected via pin and it can be replaced
>>
>>55195962
it seems to be pushed into the smartphone
when i compare it to other smartphones or my nexus 7 tablet it´s definitely pushed inside
and when someone tried to open my nexus 5 a corner tooth broke so one corner is a bit loose

if the 5x is a downgrade what would be a comparable replacement

What carriers does the Meme Note 3 even work on? The frequency checker site doesn't really give the clearest details.
>>
>>55197671
There is no 4g coverage with GiffGaff when using RNP3, no band 20 - http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/

You need to switch to a carrier that uses 3 coverage or best case, EE coverage. Look'e here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Kingdom_mobile_virtual_network_operators
>>
>>55197736
It depends what you mean by "work"
I think it supports AT&T up to 3G, but doesn't have the single additional band it needs for 4G.
I think it only supports T-Mobile at 2G, but I'm not sure about that. The rest of American carriers are CDMA and wouldn't support your phone anyways.
>>
Anyone with the s7 edge care to comment on the "edge" ? I would prefer to not have the edge at all but I want the 5.5 screen and better battery life. Do you stop noticing the edge after awhile, does if suck watching videos like some say?

Speaking of botnet, I find it hilarious how inaccurate the Maps timeline is. Turned it on to see how it could actually track me, and the most accurate thing it told me was that I stopped at 2 stores. The rest of the time when I was stationary in a chair it told me I walked about 3 miles in zigzag patterns, and then another time it told me I drove for 24 hours straight. Either my GPS is broken or this shit is just hilariously inaccurate.

Currently have an original moto g. It's a decent phone, but it's CDMA and I want to switch to a GSM carrier.

Should I get the redmeme 3? (not the Note 3 since 5.5" is too big) Or something completely different?

Battery life is the highest priority for me, followed by build quality (I take care of my devices but metal is nice.) Gaming doesn't matter. It'd be nice to have microsd support and availability of a mostly-stock android rom, but neither are essential. 5" is the largest display I could tolerate and smaller is better. Finally, I won't spend more than $200.

Also, pls talk me out of a secondhand iphone5 for $150

Currently have LG G3, on Verizon, really getting tired of non-removable pre-installed software locked down customization (really want the flashlight toggle in the notification that native Android 6 has), and the usual 2 years to get OS updates (android 6 being the odd one) was thinking about the nexus 5x but feels like it would be a downgrade, Less battery, less RAM, lower resolution, no SD expansion (everything is saved to external SD currently). Would it be worth it for the cheap price? or are there any other "pure android" experience phones that are updated quickly and preferably have a fingerprint reader?
>>

Only really hard materials like quartz (which is present in sand) can scratch hardened smartphone glass. With normal handling your screen shouldn't be obviously scratched, although you might notice some light scratches in direct sunlight. You can avoid scratches by putting a glass or plastic protector over the screen. They don't interfere with the touchscreen but plastic protectors scratch easier than glass and feel much different when swiping. You might want to make sure the protectors are oleophobic so that they don't collect fingerprints.

>>55201447
The basic idea is:
1) Unlock bootloader. This usually wipes your data so back it up.
2) Flash the appropriate TWRP img file to the phone's recovery partition while it is in fastboot mode. You will probably have to use the fastboot command from the Android SDK tools.
3) Use TWRP to install a CyanogenMod zip and a GApps zip (I recommend OpenGapps). Make sure to wipe the data partition because you can't reuse it between MIUI and CM (which would be called a "dirty flash").
4) Set up CyanogenMod and enjoy. If there are any bugs, test thoroughly to figure out what circumstances cause them and then politely let the developer know.
