Yeah I personally haven't bothered with Noctua case fans because you can still see them on the outside of the case and the white fractals are much prettier, but I went with an NH-D15 for my CPU cooler just because I never have to look at it. The thing works miracles.

There is really no need to have that many fans. One front intake, one back exhaust, something nice at the bottom, Noctua is good to play this passive faggot role as it's brown, ugly and extremely efficient.
I've got them on a triple rad like 1 meter from my head. Not completely silent, but it has that nice wind sound.

Decent airflow, very low noise, and very, very long life. Any normal fan would end up getting very noisy after a year or two, due to the bearings drying up or breaking. On the Noctua fans, this takes a much longer time.

No, they fall directly on the usual CFM/noise curve nearly any axial tube fan of a given thickness and diameter falls on.
That said, they have decent low speed motor controllers, the controller is quiet, and the bearings a better-than-typical grade. If you don't want to buy EBM/Papst, and Panaflo is too big, the Noctuas are actually pretty decent quality parts.

They make good cpu coolers that don't make me want to kill myself when installing them. Other than that they're a nice balance of performance and noise while having a good warranty.
