I've decided to drink the Kool-Aid and get a ThinkPad for university. What do you guys recommend? Any of them decent for gaming?

you can find the ones with an i5 + 8gb of ram for about 200$, the i7 ones are harder to find but go for 250-300$
If you want gaming then go with a Mac, I'm sure mummy and daddy will buy you one if you cash in all your good boy points.

Can't really recommend any for gaming unfortunately, they mostly don't have dedicated GPUs. Though if you just play old (<2005) games like me a T440 does great.

Find whichever thinkpad you like and ask in >>>/g/sqt if you don't know how to read specs. /g/ tends to prefer older thinkpads I think, and they wouldn't play anything popular after 2008 so well. My T400 plays Minecraft okay on GNU+linux+xfce4 (important because I have less concurrent activity from OS, probably couldn't do it on Windows without lots of debloating) as long as I don't build a lot in one area, and I also play computer chess and OpenTTD just fine.
