Pros/Cons of gentoo over debian? Currently on debian thinking of trying out gentoo for desktop.
>>55152925
gentoo hasn't been relevant since 2004
the even dropped the installation guides für stage1 and 2
Are you retarded?
Why even compare... they are for different users.
Anyway
Gentoo if you are into computing
Debian for a server

wth are you smoking ?
Gentoo if you like wasting your time.
Debian if you just want a working system.

gentoo if u have a good computer
debian if u have bad computer
Gentoo for people who actually realize the importance of running a source based distribution. Anyone who thinks it doesn't matter is in denial. Debian is just fine but I prefer Gentoo. It's far more flexible and offers me the freedom of choice when it comes to how software is installed on my machine. Debian is pretty bloated as well.
Portage > apt-get
OpenRC > systemd
Source > binary

Installing Gentoo is a hassle but once you have a working system it's bliss. You can configure it however you want with very simple commands, portage is extremely powerful.
That being said it is definitely aimed at semi-nerds/sysadmin enthusiasts. If you don't care about maintening an operating system then it might not be for you
