I always like it when people display their own fucking stupidity, e.g. you claiming stuff about long taking compression right below options that disable compression.
The only bad thing is that dealing with ppl like you is so time consuming...

Maybe get a decent computer. My laptop has no problem taking such a screenshot without pausing.

haasn seems to have a separate program watching that folder for screendumps, and runs said dumps through ImageMagick instead of compressing them inside an mpv thread. I imagine that one day this will be handed off to another thread more efficiently.

Wait, am I having a stroke?
With user-shaders="~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns128-win8x6-all.hook" I have no performance decrease (running an intel Core i7 2600k + R9 390 8GB)!

With the nnedi3 preset in mpv I used to have choppy playback even with only 16 neurons!

Is the shader way better than the preset or does it just not work?
>>
>>55133787
It seems exploitative. It has a closed-source core and it's trying to encourage an ecosystem of open-source plugins. If it becomes popular, it will be because of its community, but they won't give back by opening their own code. The devs are probably cut from the same egotistical Doom9 cloth as madshi. Only mpv seems to care about improving the state of video playback as a whole by opening their own code. Now anyone can make their own video player using libmpv and anyone can use the same algorithms as mpv just by studying mpv's code.

You need to run it using the profile in Haasn's conf.

vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:background=0.1

Remove "deband", it's already built into opengl-hq. Remove "prescale-downscaling-threshold=1.5", it doesn't work with user shaders. You could try putting user-shaders="~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns128-win8x6-all.hook" at the end.

If you mean by quality if the stream lags/stutters, that kinda depends on your connection speed and the torrent availability, but it should be fine. Takes a few seconds to start the video, though.

If you mean the video quality, there's no difference between streaming and downloading.

The rorgoroth builds come with an updater script, you actually need to run that to get updates to mpv and angle dll's.
Latest build from updates works fine so you must have updates mpv.exe/com manually but not the dll files.

Restarting windows did the work, anyways I've noticed that mpv kinda adds black borders.

Example;

Forgot to add;

This mostly happens when resizing/downscaling., I honestly though it was the video itself, but after using borderless I don't think it is.

Anyways I might test a bit more and see if I can find out why it happens.

That has compression off, so it takes a long ass time due to the slow IO you have, turn compression to 5 and you will notice a huge improvement, 8 might be slower than 5 since it's much more demanding
mpv uses libpng to make PNG's, so it's the same as pretty much every other program out there
Haasn saves to ram and then compresses with IM, which has more options for everything, so he doesn't suffer the IO hit
You shouldn't blindly copy paste stuff, just stick to the defaults of you're too dumb to read the manual

OS X user here.
Frames have been dropping with
vo=opengl-hq:icc-profile-auto
even with 50MB cache, and I realized that mpv falls back to software decoding.
I've been looking around Github and came to the conclusion that I should use
hwdec=videotoolbox
(an OS X only decoder). It still falls back to software decoding.
Also tried:
hwdec=vdpau
hwdec=auto

but the problem persists.

Some solutions include recompiling newer versions of ffmpeg through git, and then reinstalling mpv, but I'm using brew.

Any suggestions?

>how do I use the function (F1, F2...F12) keys in input.conf?
Use:

and press your keys. It will display the key code or whatever the internal representation is called.
>>
>>55152410
>I've been looking around Github and came to the conclusion that I should use
Hardware decoding in general only works on a very very small set of video codecs. Pretty much only h264 works and only when it's not a complex encode (Only up to a certain "level": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels). Modern hardware (with equally modern drivers) can also hwdec h265 content.
You can also just use hwdec=auto btw.
>>
>>55152551
>Also tried:
>hwdec=vdpau

The file I'm trying to play is Coalgirls' Evangelion 3.33, which is H.264 and 5.1 FLAC.
I tried removing the cache and hwdec options, and playback seems to be smoother.
mpv doesn't say whether it's "Using software decoding" as a result.

I'd like to confirm whether mpv still falls back to software without the option. How can I go about this?

>>55154212
This is literally why everyone sane hates SVP. SVP is not smart enough to know it's not supposed to interpolate hardsubs. It's also not smart enough to interpolate motion in the foreground and background of a scene at the same time. These kind of artifacts occur to a lesser degree in pretty much everything interpolated by SVP. Don't use SVP.

mpv can manage to follow ordered chapters, but it doesn't know what linked mkvs are. It's another part of the mkv spec. Linking is easier than writing chapters, and MPC-HC supports it.

Functionality-wise it's identical to ordered chapters but nobody is using it except this guy. Otherwise we'd see users complaining about their videos not working but it's just this guy.

Just the notes.
https://www.matroska.org/technical/specs/notes.html#TrackOperation

Segment linking

Hard linking

This linking can also be called splitting. It's the operation of cutting one segment in several parts. The resulting parts should play as if it was just one part (the original segment). That means the timecode of each part follows the ones from the previous parts. The track numbers are the same. The chapters only match the current segment (unless the edition is ordered, where all parts should be in each segment). And most important, the NextUID and PrevUID points the respective segment UIDs.

Soft linking

Soft linking is used by codec chapters. They can reference another segment and jump on that Segment. The way the segments are described are internal to the chapter codec and unknown to the matroska level. But there are elements in the Segment Information (ChapterTranslate) that can translate a value representing a segment in the chapter codec and to the current Segment UID. All segments that could be used in a file/segment this way should be marked as members of the same family (SegmentFamily), so that the player can quickly switch from one to the other.

I'm using a recent release on Windows 10 and it seems to run better for me than MPC-HC on default settings. Especially when there's artistic soft subs going on.

Pic related. MPC-HC performance going to shit in a panning scene for no reason. Switching from the internal subtitle renderer fixes it but xy-vsfilter is very crash prone for me. Turning off animated subtitles also fixes the insane performance spikes but that makes no sense because these subs aren't even animated. I have a Phenom II X6 1055T it should really be able to handle this no?

I've already ran that, didn't help. I've also gone through half a dozen Nvidia drivers and MPC-HC versions. Messed with the Nvidia control panel options. Used DDU. Tried with and without a pagefile.
Windows Media Player and mpv both play the same video fine with subtitles. It also runs fine without any Nvidia drivers installed at all, using some sort of basic Windows driver.

I've tried just about everything at this point short of reinstalling Windows because I'm not certain that will help. This install was a clean one on an SSD only two months old and has only just gotten comfy. Everything was fine on Windows 7.

What happens if you run hwdec=auto, if you're not already, in MPV? Using backend=dxinterop, that is.
Seems very weird that it doesn't work well using EVR.
About that, are you using EVR or EVR-CP in MPC?
>>
>>55159143
I use hwdec=auto. It defaults to d3d11va unless I add backend=dxinterop in which case it uses dxva2 and the colours are washed out with dxva2. Performance is fine in mpv every time, even with opengl-hq and interpolation. Or not using hardware decoding at all.

I'm using EVR-CP in MPC-HC, EVR doesn't seem to support subtitles for me and any option that does has the same stuttering problems until I disable (animated) subtitles or switch to another subtitle renderer.
>>
Is anyone using the progressbar script? It seems like a huge memory hog.
>>
>>55159339
Aah wait I remember many people using all kinds of plugins and installations and what have you for MPC-HC, like libav, a different sub renderer, etc etc. I guess that's the reason why.

Wait, why did you want to use MPC-HC again?
>>
>>55159395
I've pretty much moved to mpv now and it's a fine replacement. It's just weird how this problem with MPC-HC's internal subtitle renderer seems unique to my system. The same video with the same MPC settings on a monitor with the same resolution works without a single performance hitch on my toaster Core2Duo laptop running a similarly configured Windows 10.
