Hey /g/, so i have a xeon e7 v2 engineering sample, and i found out its illegal to sell those. Problem is I can't afford a motherboard because they go for 400$+ where i live. Anyone know what happens if i contact intel about it?
>>
>>55128121
Maybe give it back, maybe keep it. Can't really tell you. It's legally theirs.
>>
>>55128121
>Anyone know what happens if i contact intel about it?

pure speculation but they might threaten legal action, it's illegal to sell for the same reason it's "illegal" to own them

REEEEEEEEEEEEE

did you just delete your post to get the REEEEE right?

anyway it's a cpu it's probably fine there's a metric fuckton of power and ground pins

Top right corner is fucked, what did you guys do.. drop it?

Sell it anyway.
???
Profit.
>>
>>55128121

Damn, Jamal. How'd you steal that?
>>
It's not illegal to sell them, it's just against Intel's licensing because the only people that are supposed to have them are licensed individuals/entities that paid to be part of Intel's processor development research program.

If you have one, sell the fucker. You might not be able to sell it on eBay or anything because Intel will bitch to eBay about it - that does NOT mean it's illegal, it just means eBay doesn't want Intel chewing them out over it.

>selling a processor
>illegal
>get the fuck out
>>
>>55128121
>Anyone know what happens if i contact intel about it?
Why the fuck would you?
>>
>>55128425
No, they're property of Intel, and they're loaned out to people

What you're suggesting is essentially the same as saying you can go and hire a car and then sell it
>>
>>55128515
>letting the jews from intel cuck you so hard
good goy
>>
as someone who works with tech engineering samples, send it to intel, they will replace it with a non-sample processor of the same type

those are not supposed to leave a specific circle of testers and reviewers

source: i work for MSI and do quality control on their GPU's, we have two samples a day, one for us to test, one to be sent out to a tester, they are all but fucking lojacked in order to keep track of them, when they do go missing and are found online by someone, they would be encouraged to send it back to us in exchange for an identical, but consumer card

once had a 560ti get lost as part of a testers lost airline baggage, it was sent back to us a year later after being sold in auction, resold on ebay, and then picked in a garage sale, the guy got a 750ti as a replacement, boss was pleased
>>
>>55128121
> selling cpu, that can't be sold by the buyer
wut
>>
>>55128121

If you really want to give it back, just mail it to them with no return address

But I say don't let intel bully you. It's yours now
>>
>>55128244
Its fine. Just the picture for some reason
>>
>>55128121
You can sell it and get away without issues. Just don't use ebay. Check out overclock forum.
>>
>>55128121
pfft, just sell it quietly to someone who doesnt give a fuck

intel arent gonna give a fuck unless you try making a business of it
>>
>>55128542
Nice. I'll look into that
>>
>>55128121
give it back, jamal.
>>
>>55129044
If you do this you might just fucking lose it mate, I recommend you just look for somebody that want's to buy it, there is no point in getting a new one if you still aren't gonna get the motherboard.
>>
>>55128121
Most engineering samples on ebay seem to have been sold without issues
>>
>>55128121
A socket 2011 motherboard can be found for less than $200, it's just a matter of looking in the right places.

Here's one for $300

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-X9SRH-7F-ATX-Motherboard-Socket-2011-v1-v2-/142020519598?hash=item21111526ae:g:4j8AAOSwuhhXWiD2

Make an offer of $250 and see what happens.
>>
>>55128515
This is true, but lots of other things like this sell on ebay all the time, such as 35mm films.
>>
>>55128542
Hmm, if what you are saying is true couldn't a person buy an engineering sample CPU from ebay and then send it in to Intel to get something more valuable or higher performance?
>>
>>55129550
>$250 for a 5 year old board
>>
>>55129791

Intel doesn't give a shit about some random retard on /g/ trying to hold onto an engineering sample of an already-released processor. They're more likely trying to get them so that they can hunt down the OEM's that are letting them out into public.

If it means having to give out an equivalent processor in return, so be it. A single thousand-dollar processor is literally nothing to Intel's bottom line, and it's not like there's thousands of engineering samples out in the hands of the public.
>>
>>55129868
5 years old and capable of delivering performance right up there with the newest Skylake shit.

Age ain't nothing when it comes to Xeons.
>>
>>55129887
So you're saying it can be done?
>>
>>55129550
Thing is these use lga 2011-1, not the regular lga 2011. Its actually the successor to lga 1567. Dual socket lga 2011-1 boards start at ~450$
>>
>>55129943

I mean, I don't work at Intel, but unless you're turning in more than just a few engineering samples, I think they'd be fine with giving you replacements.
>>
>>55129943
I highly doubt it and wouldn't risk it. It's technically Intel's property. It's probably along the lines of buying stolen property, even if you didn't know it can still be taken from you and without reimbursement. You'd end up having to sue whoever sold it to you to get your money back, or if they also didn't know it'd have to be traced back to whoever Intel gave it to or some shit like that.
>>
"Lap" the hest spreader and sell it on ebay. Find some screenshots of the same processor in speccy or something and you'll be fine.
>>
>>55129906
in multi-threaded tasks, sure

I highly doubt OP is doing anything more than gay porn and runescape, neither which benefit from 32 cores
>>
>>55130423
>not multitasking
lel, these 6 core 16** xeons sure are beasty
>>
>>55128542
>as someone who works with tech engineering samples, send it to intel, they will replace it with a non-sample processor of the same type

No they fucking wont. Why would they replace $200 cpu with $2000 one?
>>
>>55128121
Keep it and sell later for some money, just that "Intel confidential" thing should make collectors panties wet
