Why do people hate comcast again?

seriously, what is so bad about the speed they provide?
>>

>>
>12 Mbps upload rate
>177.74 Mbps download rate that only lasts for approximately 60 seconds at most
>all that download rate means nothing in the face of streaming video which still finds a way to chug and get stuck buffering

Because while Verizon is just as bad in some respects, I can generally expect consistent performance with it.
>>
>>55125892
For $65 a month Comcast will give me 150/20 mbps with a 500GB/month soft data cap.

Or for $65 a month I can get Verizon FIOS 150/150 mbps with a soft data cap around 7TB/month.
>>
>>55125892
>>55125946
I am on comcast too, generally had no performance issues at my last spot but recently moved.

Now I cant get any wifi devices to stream or download worth a damn.

I run a speedtest.net on my phone and I get 30-60mbps, decent enough for my purposes. Then I go to a WebM thread and a 2mb webm takes 30+ seconds to load. a youtube video even at 480p buffers every 5 seconds.

What the crap is going on? any tips? I am standing right in front of the router/modem for crying out loud.

Economy tier, 3Mps down, $39.95 / mo.

Way too much money.
>>
>>55125960
id be on FIOS in the drop of all my dimes if they serviced my area.
>>
>>55125960
fucking shitcongo is the third largest city in the US and our choices are either overpriced as fuck comcast (unless you get a new customer promotion for a year) or even more overpriced ATT with shit speeds. only a handful of cities and neighborhoods have RCN or WOW which offer 30 down 5 up for 30 dollars/month, which is the same package that comcast offers at that price but only for the first year then it shoots up to 67 dollars/month.

pic is what can be expected from ATT and they have a data cap and charge extra if you go over it.
>>
>>55125996
Honestly that seems like you just are stuck on an old contact. Drop your service and sign up as a new customer and it'll probably be faster and similar price
>>
>>55126041
>1.7GB movie
Try 10-15GB if it's 1080p and not a shit encode.
>>
>>55125892
Enjoy reaching your GB limit in a few hours and getting knocks on your door by the Comcast police for watching a copyright movie on Youtube.
>>
>>55125946
Not anymore you can't. Verizon sold their land internet to Frontier who is as shit tier, if not more so, then Comcast.

Enjoy your great internet environment.
>>
>>55126130
They only sold stuff down in Florida and California. Everything else FIOS is still Verizon.

I know because I moved a week ago and just had a Verizon tech at my house installing FIOS a few days ago.
>>
>>55125982
have you tried reseting your devices?
>>
>>55126154
Interesting. Why would they only sell in those two places?
>>
>shitty reliability
>shitty customer support
>shitty prices
>shitty throttling
>shitty bandwidth caps
>shitty coverage
>shitty oligarchy w/ the other telecom corporations
did i miss something?
>>
>>55126177
No idea, I know most of the FIOS network is in the northeast so maybe they just wanted to consolidate the technicians and workers?
Maybe it was money
>>
>>55125892
>Using Comcast's Speedtest.net
>Paying a shit load for that internet
>>
>>55125892
When I used them about thirteen years ago, the speeds were fine but I'd routinely get periods with terrible connectivity problems. Massive packet loss with short periods of functional service, and this would last for hours before clearing up.

It was a regular thing in the evenings, and when I'd call them up, they'd first try to upsell my plan, then eventually schedule a technician to come out during the middle of the day who would then find nothing wrong and then try to upsell my plan. I eventually did, and the problem did go away... for about a month and a half, then it started again. Called up support, they did the exact same thing; wanted to upsell my plan instead of help address my connectivity problems.

That's why I dislike Comcast. Because locally their service sucked and it still sucks according to my neighbors. Good speeds are worthless without consistency.
>>
>>55126206
it's the oligarchy, they're only doing FIOS for one company and making it expensive as fuck because there's no competition (cus oligarchy), then in a couple years another company will start doing FIOS too.
>>
>>55126177
Well if they make their network smaller and cut off the outer edges, they can claim their remaining network is better/more reliable without actually having to do anything.

If there's one thing you can trust American ISPs to do, it's to find ways to "improve service" without actually improving or helping anything.
>>
>>55126173
if you mean my router/modem box, yes. If you mean my phone, laptop, girls phone & tablet, then no, we havent because every wifi device in the house has shit connection. Even our damn printer cant print Wi-Fi, I have to transfer files to the hardwire desktop or else it prints 1 page every 60 seconds from the data transfer being so shit.

Any other ideas?
>>
google fiber when
>>
>>55126285
if all your devices have shit connection you have interference somewhere from other shit, due to walls or your modem/router is broken.
>>
>>55126285
try changing your wireless channel
>>
>>55126314
or other appliances in the house.
>>
>>55126314
I figure there is interference, but when running a speed test from say my phone, I am getting pretty decent speeds (30-60mbps). But when downloading/streaming, its shit.
>>
>>55126349
sounds like you're being throttled.

If you got a new modem when you moved, it's very likely that they gave you a shit modem that can't handle anything except short bursts of speed required by speed tests.

And what's the ping? You might have 30-60 mbps DL, buf if you're dealing with a 100+ ms or packet loss, that can fuck your shit up just as bad.

indeed. i pay $35/mo for 100/100 fiber and i live in a small town with 15k population and pretty much every house has fiber.
>>
Figured my post in the small questions thread is more related here so I'll ask again.

Anyone have AT&T Gigapower? Pay for big brother or live in ignorance and not pay for big brother?

I was on Comcast Business to get unlimited but now with a 1TB cap on Comcast or AT&T that is enough for me until 2K is widely used.
>>

I only get 30mbps down and 6mbps up on their "high speed" package

Their customer service is quite bad. They've implemented data caps in certain regions. My internet connection regularly drops for a second or so. It doesn't make a difference while browsing the web, but it messes up certain games, software, and my FireTV stick.

Once my two year contract is up I'm jumping ship to something else, but for now this is pretty okay for $45/mo.
>>
Comcast's speeds are decent
The company is anti-competitive. I've got other options for Internet where I live, but the next fastest is fucking DSL @ 7/1 while I get 140/12 from comcast
